6/2/2026 – From June 15 to 17, Fuengirola will become a national reference point for improvised musical creation with the celebration of the II Spanish Sign Rhythm Meeting. This was announced today by the Youth Councilor, Isaac Vargas, and one of the promoters of the initiative, Antonio Rincón, who have highlighted the importance of an event that will bring together participants from different parts of Spain and that will feature the presence of Santiago Vázquez, creator of this unique musical language.
The program includes training workshops, jam sessions and a closing concert that will take place on Wednesday, June 17, at 9:00 p.m., in Pedro Cuevas Square. The performance will be free access and will allow the public to learn first-hand about this innovative form of collective artistic creation.
Sign Rhythm is a real-time musical direction and composition system based on gestures and visual signals. Created by the Argentine musician Santiago Vázquez, this language allows a group of performers to build improvised musical pieces using indications that mark aspects such as pulse, pauses, changes in dynamics or rhythmic bases.
“From June 15 to 17 we are going to have a very special activity in Fuengirola, the Second Spanish Sign Rhythm Meeting, which will also have the presence of Santiago Vázquez, creator of this cultural movement and an international reference in this discipline,” said Vargas.
The mayor explained that the training part of the meeting will take place in the Youth Booth at the Fairgrounds, where different workshops will be given aimed at participants arriving from different parts of Spain.
Likewise, Vargas highlighted that “one of the most attractive moments of the program will be the closing concert on Wednesday, June 17, in which attendees will be able to see on stage the result of all the work carried out during the three days of training and musical exchange.”
The municipal official also thanked the Drang group for its involvement in organizing the event. “Thanks to their initiative and collaboration it has been possible to bring this project to Fuengirola and have the presence of musicians from all over Spain and Santiago Vázquez himself,” he indicated.
For his part, Antonio Rincón recalled that the first edition of the meeting was held last year between Madrid and Barcelona and highlighted the City Council’s commitment to hosting this second call. “There are going to be three very intense days, with different workshops and spaces for musical coexistence. The final touch will come with the concert on Wednesday, where everything learned will be put into practice and which will also feature the participation of the batucada Barakatum, in charge of opening the performance in Pedro Cuevas Square,” he explained.
With this initiative, Fuengirola reinforces its commitment to promoting innovative cultural activities and creating meeting spaces for young people, artists and music lovers from all over the country.
