The Fuengirola City Council and the Government of Andalusia formalize the agreement to build a 24 Hour Emergency Center
Ana Mula and Antonio Sanz sign the protocol by which the council transfers the plot and the SAS will allocate 1.9 million to “this historic demand”
6/2/2026 – The mayor of Fuengirola, Ana Mula, and the acting Minister of Health, Presidency and Emergencies, Antonio Sanz, have formalized today, with the signing of an action protocol, the agreement for the construction of a 24-Hour Emergency Center in Fuengirola.
The new center will be built on the plot of more than 1,100 square meters provided by the City Council on Avenida de Santa Amalia, 21. It will involve an investment of 1.9 million euros by the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) and already has an updated functional plan to meet the needs of a city of 85,598 inhabitants, “whose population increases significantly during the summer season”, as the acting councilor has highlighted.
In this sense, the mayor of Fuengirola has highlighted that “we continue to take firm steps, complying with the roadmap drawn up with the Junta de Andalucía so that, sooner rather than later, Fuengirola residents have the health infrastructure they need.”
Antonio Sanz has explained that this General Protocol of Action between the SAS and the Fuengirola City Council establishes the necessary actions for the opening of this center that “responds to a historical demand from the residents: to have an immediate emergency medical care service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in the municipality itself.” “A commitment to the neighbors that we acquired from the Government of Andalusia and, once again, we keep our word and with the province of Malaga,” he added.
The acting Andalusian Health Minister recalled that Fuengirola currently has three health centers and a Primary Care emergency point in Las Lagunas, which it shares with the population of Mijas Costa, which serves a population of more than 170,000 inhabitants. “This new emergency point is going to transform health care in the city and represents another step in the improvements that we are addressing in the province as a whole,” he added, before mentioning the inauguration of the Los Pacos Health Center or the renovation of the Los Boliches one or the expansion of the La Carihuela center in Torremolinos, among others.
The signing ceremony, held at the SAS headquarters, was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Health and Consumer Affairs, Nicolás Navarro; the managing director of the SAS, Valle García; the territorial delegate of Health and Consumer Affairs of Malaga, Carlos Bautista, and the Fuengirola councilor and provincial deputy of Malaga Francisco José Martín.
