Fuengirola’s libraries registered more than 24,500 visitors in March and April 2026, 15.7% more than last year
The Councilor for Culture, Rodrigo Romero, has highlighted the increase in users, the high occupancy of the study rooms and the success of cultural activities
5/11/2026 – The Councilor for Culture of the Fuengirola City Council, Rodrigo Romero, held a press conference today to present the balance of activity of the Municipal Library Network during the months of March and April 2026, a period in which 24,533 visitors have been registered, which represents an increase of 15.7% compared to the same period in 2025.
Romero has evaluated these results “very positively”, which reflect “the good performance of the libraries and the massive participation registered in the proposed activities. In addition, the trend of the previous two months is maintained, when an increase of 15% was also recorded compared to the same period of the previous year.”
Among the most notable data, the mayor has highlighted those registered in the Gloria Fuertes library in terms of loans, which with a total of 4,164 documents leads the loans of the library network.
Furthermore, the total number of members of the library network continues to grow and now reaches 34,497 members, with 274 new members registered in March and April.
Another of the services that have been well received have been the study rooms, both the one in Los Boliches, which has been used by 1,019 people during the last two months, and the Javier Castillo one in the Elola complex, which in March and April has received 5,563 students.
Success of activities
In these two months, 105 activities have been scheduled, compared to the 121 carried out in the same period of 2025. Despite having organized, specifically, 4% fewer adult activities, attendance by the adult public has experienced a significant increase of 40% with the participation of 1,239 people, compared to the 884 registered in 2025.
In the Fuengirola entre Letras cycle in the months of March and April, the meeting with David Trueba registered a full capacity. The launch of the essay and philosophy cycle ‘Fuengirola, Thinking about the Present’ with Ernesto Castro has been another of the highlighted activities.
For its part, the narrator cycle featured the participation of Ana Griott, Félix Albo and Pepe Maestro; Pep Montserrat participated in the illustrators category and Sara Torres, Miguel Ángel Hernández, José Ángel Mañas and Nerea Pallares participated in the writers category.
Furthermore, in March the 5th edition of the International Illustrated Album Award was awarded, with the project ‘¡Tira que tira!’ by Charo Pilta and illustrator Marjorie Pourchet. Access was also granted to ‘Diez Gatos Borings’ by Txabi Arnau and Roger Olmos, both albums will be published by OQO.
Upcoming activities
Looking ahead to the coming months, the Fuengirola Library Network will continue to expand its programming with centers of interest and special activities on the occasion of different anniversaries, such as International Celiac Day (May 16), Recycling (May 17), Internet (May 17), Museums (May 18) and Bee Day (May 20).
Romero concluded by encouraging Fuengirola residents to “continue using libraries, because we are open to all kinds of suggestions to improve and continue to be the community centers that we are becoming thanks to the great attendance they register every day.”
