4/22/2026 – Next Monday, April 27, Fuengirola will host the III International Open Cities Forum, an event focused on the analysis and exchange of experiences in tourism sustainability. The event, which will be held as a prelude to the International Fair of Countries (FIP), will take place at the Peace Palace and will feature the participation of prominent institutional representatives, diplomats and agents of the tourism sector from different countries. Admission will be free until capacity is reached.
The Councilor for Tourism, José Luis Ponce, has highlighted that the main objective of this forum is to share good practices and tourism management models that allow the development of the sector to be balanced with sustainability and the quality of life of residents.
“With this initiative we want to contribute a more reflective and cultural aspect to the calendar of international activities that the city is experiencing during this month, offering a space for dialogue where we can analyze, from different perspectives, how tourist destinations face current challenges,” explained the mayor.
The forum will be structured into two sessions: a morning session, which will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. after the opening ceremony, and an afternoon session, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., in which the presentations and discussion tables will continue.
The event will have the confirmed presence of the head of the Market and Attractiveness Unit at the Department of Environment and Business Life of Malmö (Sweden), Anna Wittgren; the mayor of Maccagno con Pino e Veddasca (Italy), Ivan Vargiu; the minister of the Japanese Embassy, Shinichi Sato; the delegate of the Ministry of Tourism in Tetouan (Morocco), Omar Zekari; the president of the Andean Community – of which Bolivia, Colombia and Ecuador are part –, Gustavo Pacheco; and the Councilor for Tourism of the Oviedo City Council, Alfredo García Quintana.
Ponce has encouraged neighbors, professionals and people interested in tourism to attend this event: “It is an open, close and participatory forum, where in addition to listening to international experts, you can interact, ask questions and share experiences in an enriching environment.”
