The event will be this Saturday, December 13, and will have the participation of 350 competitors
12/11/2025. The Juan Gómez “Juanito” sports pavilion in Fuengirola will be the headquarters of the selective tournament this Saturday, December 13, that will determine the composition of the Spanish team that will compete in the next European Taekwondo Championship. This was announced today by the Councilor for Sports, Julio Rodríguez, the director of the TkdPro Club, Daniel Gómez, and the member of the board of directors of the Spanish Taekwondo Association, Maximiliano Montiel.
Rodríguez has highlighted the importance of hosting events of this level for the city. “For Fuengirola it is a pride to be a pole of attraction for large events that give us a very important projection both nationally and internationally. To do this we must work hand in hand with our clubs, such as TkdPro, which every year presents us with very interesting proposals, and with associations that have been doing things well for a long time, such as the Spanish Taekwondo Association.”
For his part, Maximiliano Montiel thanked the City Council “for always opening the doors to the events we propose.” He has detailed that this selection will allow the national team to be formed that will represent Spain in the European Championship, which will be held on the island of Crete from April 19 to 25. “In addition to the main tournament, a small colored belt competition will be held for children aged eleven and older,” he added.
The event, organized by the Spanish Unified Taekwondo Association and the Spanish Union Federation, under the umbrella of the International Taekwondo Federation, will bring together more than 350 competitors from all over Spain, including 150 black belts. Montiel has also highlighted that the tournament will be a pioneer at the national level: “It will be the first in Spain to compete with a video-protest system, what in other sports is known as VAR, which also reaches taekwondo.”
Finally, Daniel Gómez has stressed the broad participation planned. “Athletes will come from Galicia, Tenerife, Barcelona, Valencia and many other parts of the country. We are very satisfied by the interest shown in being part of the ITF national team and convinced that we will experience a great event in magnificent facilities like those of the Juanito pavilion.”
