5/19/2026 – More than 800 players will participate this Saturday, May 23, in the XIII National Sports Meeting without insults ‘El Deporte Iguala’. This was announced this morning by the Sports Councilor, Julio Rodríguez, accompanied by Ricardo Bandrés, president of the Malaga Basketball Federation; and by Fernando Revillas, president of the Salliver Basketball Club, who have indicated that a total of 44 games will be played to promote values such as respect, education, camaraderie or tolerance. The event will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. approximately, at the Salliver school.

Fernando Revillas, as president of the Salliver Basketball Club, highlighted that “this Saturday we are going to experience an atmosphere of camaraderie, tolerance, education and respect. We put aside the competitive part and we want all the values of sport to come to light and for us to enjoy a day of coexistence and brotherhood.”
Ricardo Bandrés has explained for his part that the Malaga delegation of the Andalusian Basketball Federation collaborates by providing the participation of the referees who will direct the 44 games that will be played. “We have been organizing this tournament side by side with the City Council and the Salliver School for thirteen years, where tolerance, education and sport, in this case basketball, come to light.”
For his part, Julio Rodríguez highlighted that “this Sports Meeting without insults ‘El Deporte Iguala’ is one of the initiatives that makes me most excited to present, because it highlights what really matters most to us about basketball and sports in general. Success is not in points or in winning a game or a trophy, success is in establishing good behaviors and attitudes for life and this meeting achieves it, promoting attitudes of respect, camaraderie and brotherhood.”
In this sense, the mayor has indicated that “it will be twelve hours, from nine in the morning until almost nine at night, with the participation of more than 800 male and female players, of which more than 150 come from Melilla and stay the entire weekend in our hotels, eating in our restaurants and getting to know Fuengirola. Another showcase to project the benefits of our city through sport.”
