The Fuengirola City Council reinforces disinfestation work due to the increase in temperatures

The Health area has started a campaign throughout the city’s basement. A microencapsulated biocide product is being applied, which dissolves little by little, to prolong its effect and improve its effectiveness

5/18/2026 – Fuengirola City Council is reinforcing disinfestation work in the face of rising temperatures, as announced this morning by the Councilor for Health, Francisco Javier García Lara, who explained that a campaign has been launched throughout the city’s subsoil, with the aim of preventing the proliferation of insects with the arrival of heat.

“Temperatures are beginning to increase and, as we do every year, we begin the disinfestation campaign throughout the subsoil of Fuengirola to prevent the biological cycle of insect reproduction from causing discomfort, since with high temperatures insects such as cockroaches proliferate very easily,” explained García Lara.

The mayor pointed out that “from the Health Area we have divided the city by sectors. Each of the neighborhoods is sectored to better analyze and organize the work and we have also increased the staff dedicated to these tasks so that they can apply the treatment throughout the city.”

In this sense, the Councilor for Health has indicated that “we apply a microencapsulated ecological biocide product that has longer duration and effectiveness, prolonging its effect and improving its effectiveness against insects.”

García Lara has warned neighbors that “if you see the presence of these insects on the street, do not worry, because when applying the biocide product, which is harmless to people and animals, the insects usually come to the surface to die. Therefore, we work in coordination with the Cleaning service so that they pass through the area where we are acting and eliminate the remains of these insects, just after applying the treatment in the area.”

In addition, the mayor has recommended to residents that, if they find a greater presence of cockroaches at any point, “they can contact Health by phone 951 915 197 or by email sanidad@fuengirola.org and in a short period of time we will be able to act at the specific point that they indicate to us.”
