Ana Mula urges the PSOE Government to reestablish “as soon as possible” the High Speed connection between Malaga and Madrid
The mayor warns of the negative impact that the interruption of the service is generating on tourism and the economy of cities on the Costa del Sol such as Fuengirola. Mula: “A very serious event, the result of years of mismanagement and lack of maintenance of railway infrastructure by the socialist Government and its left-wing partners”
3/18/2026 – The mayor of Fuengirola, Ana Mula, today urged the central government of the PSOE to reestablish “as soon as possible” the High Speed connection between Malaga and Madrid, after the problems that have affected the rail service, interrupted since last February 4. The councilor has warned that this situation is already causing significant damage to tourism and economic activity on the Costa del Sol, especially in municipalities such as Fuengirola.
“Malaga will continue to be blocked by train, at least, until the end of April. A very serious fact, the result of years of mismanagement and lack of maintenance of the railway infrastructure by the central government of the PSOE and its left-wing partners. Once again, the socialist Government despises and neglects the province of Malaga and the people of Malaga. We all pay for its ineptitude,” stated Mula, emphasizing that “the blockade of the AVE is not just a train problem: “It is a blockade to our province and a direct blow to the economy of cities like Fuengirola. Tourism is the main economic engine of the municipality. We live off tourism and the activity it generates, we lose competitiveness, opportunities and visitors.”
The mayor has highlighted that hundreds of thousands of travelers come to the Costa del Sol every year through the High Speed Train, which turns this infrastructure into a strategic tool for the local economy. “Many visitors choose our destination because of the ease of travel from Madrid and other cities connected by the High Speed train. When this service fails, the entire tourism sector suffers,” he noted.
In this sense, Mula has regretted that the province of Malaga is once again suffering problems in a key infrastructure and has demanded that the PSOE Government provide a quick response and effective solutions that guarantee normal service. “We cannot allow a leading province in tourism to see its rail connectivity compromised,” he stated.
The councilor has assured that the Fuengirola City Council will continue to defend the interests of its citizens, workers and companies, demanding from the socialist Executive infrastructures in accordance with the economic and tourist weight of the municipality and the Costa del Sol.
“Fuengirola is a city that generates employment, wealth and dynamism for the entire province. The least that our neighbors and our business fabric deserve is to have reliable infrastructure and services that function normally,” he stated.
Finally, Ana Mula has insisted that the municipality will continue to raise its voice in situations that harm the city. “From Fuengirola we say it clearly: we do not ask for privileges, we ask the PSOE Government for respect and immediate solutions for a fundamental infrastructure for our present and our future,” he concluded.
