Ana Mula describes this decision as “historic” and assures that with its implementation, Fuengirola residents will have “the health services they need.”
02/26/2026. The Fuengirola City Council has celebrated the announcement by the Government of Andalusia to build a 24-Hour Emergency Center in the city that the Minister of Health of the Government of Andalusia, Antonio Sanz, made after meeting with the mayor Ana Mula today, in the Parliament of Andalusia. During the meeting, which was attended by the mayor and provincial deputy, Francisco José Martín, the vice-counselor of the branch, Nicolás Navarro, and the manager of the Andalusian Health Service, Valle García, they agreed to locate this equipment on a municipally owned lot located on Santa Amalia Avenue and begin the process to make it a reality as soon as possible.
“It is a historic fact for the city of Fuengirola, demanded tirelessly by this City Council for so many years, and a fact that is transcendental for the lives of the Fuengirola residents who will now see, finally, having guaranteed immediate service, offered in their own city, next to their homes, of Emergency medical care 24 hours a day and 365 days a year. I greatly appreciate the counselor’s willingness to address this peremptory need for the Fuengirola residents. The Board is healthy, Thus, an open wound in our population for decades. The Government of Juanma Moreno complies with our city,” said the councilor.
Thus, the planning agreed with the regional authorities establishes that the Fuengirola City Council will transfer the aforementioned plot to the Board, in an extraordinary plenary session to be held in March, so that it can build the property. This is equipment included in the Ministry’s own 2026 planning and already has a Functional Plan designed by its technicians.
“This emergency point will contribute to improving accessibility, proximity and distribution of the care load,” the counselor assessed, in response to the population increase that the municipality has experienced, for which the SUAP (Primary Care Emergency Service) of Las Lagunas has become too small.
Antonio Sanz explained that the plot on Santa Amalia Avenue that the City Council has offered is the one that best adapts to the needs of a center of these characteristics. Thus, it has detailed that “the estimated minimum functional program for a 24-hour SUAP requires at least 500 square meters to guarantee adequate operation”, in addition to having “accessibility for ambulances and emergency vehicles, with a fluid connection to the main road network and without conditions that make operation difficult.”
In this sense, both leaders recalled that the autonomous Administration has already allocated more than ten million euros in investments for the city in the last seven years. Specifically, the implementation of the Mental Health Unit and offices of the Costa del Sol Health District, in El Boquetillo, the new Los Pacos Health Center – the first health infrastructure that the Government of Andalusia has built in Fuengirola in nearly 40 years -, as well as the expansion of the Los Boliches Health Center.
Likewise, as Sanz has pointed out, it is in the expansion phase through work, budgeted at 600,000 euros. This consists of the incorporation of the old building of the National Social Security Institute, adjacent to the property, to double the number of consultations and improve the structural conditions of the current property.
