Fuengirola intensifies the projection of the destination at Matka 2026, the main Tourism Fair in the Nordic market
The mayor and the Tourism Councilor will travel to Helsinki to participate in this professional meeting of the sector and continue attracting visitors from this Northern European country. More than 40% of the Finns who arrive on the Costa del Sol have Fuengirola as their destination and they are the first foreign nationality in the town, with around 5,000 registered.
1/14/2026 – The Fuengirola City Council has intensified the projection of the destination in Matka 2026, which is the main Tourism Fair in the Nordic market. Mayor Ana Mula, accompanied by the Councilor for Tourism, José Luis Ponce, will travel to Helsinki to present the city at this event with different actions that aim to reinforce knowledge of the municipality in Finland, which turns out to be the third issuing public and the first foreign resident nationality.
In this way, the Fuengirola delegation, which will be headed by the first mayor herself, will begin its work day on Thursday, January 15, meeting with local agents in search of new promotional actions. As usual, the expedition will attend the reception at the Spanish Embassy, where it is expected that the councilor and the councilor will be received by its owner, Fernando Fernández-Arias Minuesa.
The next day, Friday the 16th, both will travel to the Messukeskus in the Finnish capital to attend the aforementioned International Tourism Fair. There, different work meetings have been scheduled with tour operators from the Nordic country.
The landing in Fuengirola is completed with the deployment of a static advertising campaign that the destination is carrying out in different public spaces in Helsinki, as well as in other cities in the Nordic country.
Currently, Fuengirola is the main colony of Finns in the world, beyond its neighboring countries. Not in vain, some 5,000 citizens of the aforementioned northern European country are registered in the Costa del Sol city, not counting the many who regularly reside in the town, as well as those who spend their holidays there. It is, precisely, the most common foreign nationality in the town, as stated in the Municipal Statistics Office.
According to the latest complete annual data from Turismo Costa del Sol (2024), Finland was the third international tourist issuing market for Fuengirola with more than 33,000 visitors. At the same time, it was the second international nationality in number of overnight stays, with more than 340,000 accommodations recorded.
This same study by the provincial public tourism entity concludes that 43% of Finns who visit the province choose Fuengirola as a destination to spend their holidays, while nearly 60% of them spend the night in a Fuengirola hotel establishment or tourist apartment.
