1/13/2026 – The Senior Citizens and Sports areas of the Fuengirola City Council have organized a new hiking route, included in the ‘Healthy Fuengirola’ program, with the aim of promoting outdoor physical activity among the city’s elderly people. The initiative will take place on Saturday, January 24, starting at 9:00 a.m., in Pedro Cuevas Square in Los Boliches, where a warm-up will take place before leaving to tour Los Pacos at 9:30 a.m. The councilors of Social Welfare and Sports, Cristina Bornao and Julio Rodríguez, respectively, have given more details of this activity.

“Today we present the first hiking activity of the year. One of the initiatives most loved by the elderly of our city, since they have the opportunity to carry out a sporting activity accessible to everyone and they can also visit areas of Fuengirola that are less frequented,” explained Bornao, pointing out that “in these activities we always provide a healthy snack and for this it is essential to know in advance how many people are going to participate. Therefore, it is necessary to register in advance at the Senior Citizens’ offices on Calle Blanca Paloma, from nine in the morning to one in the afternoon.”

For his part, the Councilor for Sports, Julio Rodríguez, has indicated that “it is a pleasure to work hand in hand with the Senior Citizens Area to offer the elderly our best smile, attitude and will to keep them active and go out to enjoy an outdoor route through our city.”

Regarding the hiking route, the mayor has indicated that “it will begin at nine in the morning in Pedro Cuevas Square, where we will do a joint warm-up before leaving along Jesús Cautivo Avenue and Finland Avenue to visit Las Canteras Park and later, Los Deportes Park, where we will teach you how to use the bio-healthy devices that are located there.”

To conclude, Rodríguez pointed out that “it will be a route of about four and a half kilometers, of medium difficulty and it will take us approximately an hour and a half. I encourage everyone to register as soon as possible with the Senior Citizens Department, so that they can join the large group of older people who participate in these activities to do physical activity outdoors.”
