The Fuengirola City Council designs a Municipal Security Plan to reinforce order in the city
It has three objectives: improve the operational capacity of the Local Police and Firefighters, reinforce road safety and increase the prevention of citizen crime. Among the measures, the installation of more security video cameras, the incorporation of more agents, more traffic controls or police patrols on foot in neighborhoods and parks stand out.
11/18/2025 – Fuengirola City Council has designed a Municipal Security Plan to reinforce order in the city. This initiative was presented today by Mayor Ana Mula, who in the company of the Councilors for Citizen Security and Mobility, José Luis Ponce and Isabel González, respectively, as well as the heads of the Local Police, Sergio Luna, and the Fire Department, José Julián Bueno, has outlined the three objectives pursued by said planning and the battery of measures it entails: improving the operational capacity of both bodies, reinforcing road safety and increasing the prevention of citizen crime.
“Fuengirola is a safe and orderly city. And it is, among other things, for two reasons: Because it has human and technical means to act in an emergency. And because the coordination between the bodies and forces responsible for maintaining order in the city is total. And, if you allow me, I add a third reason: because we never settle and we are up to date with how many new needs and means are necessary to be more effective in preventing any crime. It will never be possible to prevent someone from deciding to commit a crime or even accidents. But it is in our power to act immediately when they occur and work on prevention as much as possible,” explained the councilor.
Thus, the first line of work of this planning is to improve the operational capacity of both the Local Police and the Fire Department. In this sense, Mula has detailed that this first body will work on the development of an Intelligence and Security Strategy that, in the first place, will consist of the expansion of the Municipal Video Surveillance System. Currently, there are about 200 devices running and they will soon rise substantially.
Likewise, within this same branch, the public selection process of fourteen new Local Police officers and nine Firefighters is currently taking place. In the case of the police force, in addition, there is already progress in new calls that add troops to increase the workforce.
As far as infrastructure is concerned, the Municipal Security Plan also contemplates the modernization of the Emergency Coordination Center, the updating of Room 112, the creation of a Municipal Anti-Flood Plan, the acquisition of five new patrol cars and the implementation of a geolocation system to improve the efficiency of distribution and coordination of the entire fleet, the reform of the Fire Station, the optimization and improvement of the collaboration of VioGen procedures with the National Police and the renewal of the Municipal Emergency Plan.
As far as reinforcing road safety and the urban environment is concerned, the highest local authority has indicated that it will continue to commit to carrying out random traffic controls in all neighborhoods of the city, placing special emphasis on alcohol and drug testing, using, to do so, new detection systems. Likewise, and after a prior study by the Traffic Cabinet, more overpasses will be created to calm the speed of traffic on urban roads and an ordinance will be drafted to regulate electric scooters.
Local police
Finally, in the section of citizen crime prevention, the Local Police leadership has designed a plan to guarantee the presence of officers on foot in the neighborhoods, during the mornings, as well as in the main parks and squares in the afternoon.
“Therefore, we work tirelessly, hand in hand with the National Police, so that Fuengirola continues to be an increasingly safer place. A city where everyone knows that whoever does it pays. We will continue to use all the means at our disposal for this endeavor,” concluded Ana Mula.
