11/6/2025 – The municipal libraries of Fuengirola continue to consolidate themselves as spaces of cultural reference and citizen meeting. During the months of September and October, the municipal facilities—Cervantes, Lope de Vega and Gloria Fuertes—received a total of 25,173 visits, as reported this morning by the Councilor for Culture, Rodrigo Romero. In this same period, 11,613 documents were lent, 8,434 newspapers and magazines were consulted, and 2,490 people participated in the 87 activities organized by the library network.
“Libraries are no longer those silent places where you only come to read or borrow a book. Today they are authentic centers of cultural and social revitalization in each neighborhood, and the data prove it: nearly 2,500 people have participated in the activities held during the first two months of the course,” Romero highlighted.
The councilor has also highlighted the increase in users and members: 394 new members joined the municipal network, of which 158 belong to the new Gloria Fuertes library, which “is being a real engine to attract new readers.”
The free Internet access service, available in the three libraries, has been used by 954 people during these two months. To access this service you only need to have a library network card, which allows the use of computers for one hour.
Romero has evaluated the loan and consultation figures very positively: “In total more than 11,600 loans have been made – 6,280 in September and 5,333 in October -, in addition to more than 8,000 press and magazine consultations. If we add to this the 87 cultural activities with more than 2,500 participants, we see the great dynamism that our municipal libraries experience.”
To conclude, the mayor has invited residents to see the facilities first-hand and follow the cultural programming on social networks. “I encourage everyone to visit our libraries and discover the great work carried out by the human team that manages them. They are dedicated professionals, who manage to create an environment of closeness and sympathy with users that is difficult to find in other places,” he stated.
