11/5/2025 – The City Council has promoted the IX Solidarity Race ‘Fuengirola against sexist violence’, which will take place on November 23. This was announced by Cristina Bornao and Julio Rodríguez, councilors for Families, Equality and Social Welfare and Sports, respectively, who explained that, on the occasion of the commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the City Council has prepared an extensive program of activities to raise awareness among citizens of the havoc it causes and the importance of having all the possible tools to put an end to it. Among these initiatives, the celebration of this popular, family and solidarity race stands out, which will take place on Sunday the 23rd, starting at 10:00 a.m., departing from the Fairgrounds.
“Today we present one of the most beloved activities that we organize every year from the Equality area of the Department of Families, Equality and Social Welfare, in collaboration with the Department of Sports, which is the solidarity race against sexist violence, which reaches its ninth edition and is included in the events organized to commemorate November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women,” explained Bornao, pointing out that “all proceeds from this event will go to two women’s associations in our city such as Women in Equality and Women International Costa del Sol, which work every day to promote equal opportunities and prevent sexist violence.”
In this sense, the councilor has indicated that “the fundamental objective of this activity is to involve all Fuengirola citizens in the eradication of this social scourge, because it is a structural problem and it is essential that we can continue to advance as a society and contribute to the elimination of all types of violence against women.”
For his part, Julio Rodríguez explained that “this race is one of the examples that sport equalizes and serves as a backbone and also raises awareness, because what we are trying to do is incorporate women into the world of sport and also transmit values of respect, tolerance and co-education.”
Race registrations will be available on the Dorsal Chip websitewith a price of 3 euros for children up to 12 years old, and 5 euros for adults (from 13 years old). Group registrations in schools and institutes in Fuengirola will cost 1 euro and can be done at the same school starting Monday, November 10.
“We are very satisfied to see the response that this solidarity race had last year. We even reached a registration record for the Las Salinas Institute with 150 students and this year they tell us that they want to reach 200 registered students,” the councilor pointed out, pointing out that from the Sports Area, “we encourage everyone to get involved with this initiative that will take place on Sunday, November 23, when we will be able to enjoy a brotherhood race, starting from the Campus Fair until reaching the Marenostrum roundabout and back.”
The course will have a length of 200 meters for the pre-benjamin category; 400 meters, Benjamin; 1000 meters, juvenile – children and 3,000 meters for the rest of the categories: cadet, youth, promising juniors, seniors and veterans. “They are very accessible distances, because what we want is for the participants to come and enjoy a day of sport and fellowship, running and promoting the importance of tolerance and respect,” Rodríguez said in conclusion.
