Fuengirola promotes the conservation of two emblematic murals from the city’s Open Museum
The work, which began on October 17, is structured in four phases and is funded by the Junta de Andalucía through the MUNITUR 2024 program.
11/5/2025 – The Fuengirola City Council, through the Culture Area, has launched the conservation and maintenance work of two emblematic murals of the city’s Open Museum, that of Pedro Escalona, located in the Plaza de la Constitución, and that of Enrique Brinkmann, located on Avenida Condes de San Isidro. These actions, which began on October 17, will be carried out in four phases and have funding from the Junta de Andalucía within the MUNITUR 2024 call, aimed at improving and protecting Andalusian cultural heritage.

The Councilor for Culture, Rodrigo Romero, went this morning to the artistic panel, located in the downtown area, called ‘Module 483’ to see first-hand the progress of these works, which are carried out under criteria of conservation and respect for the integrity of the works.
During his visit, the mayor highlighted the importance of this intervention, pointing out that “these murals are an essential part of the urban cultural landscape of Fuengirola. Their restoration demonstrates the City Council’s commitment to the conservation of our artistic heritage and to the valorization of local and Andalusian creators.” Likewise, he has highlighted the importance of keeping the city’s artistic memory alive, stating that “we want to guarantee that these works can continue to be enjoyed by future generations. Our urban heritage deserves that we act today so that it remains alive tomorrow.”
Both murals are part of the Fuengirola Open Museum, a pioneering project that was born with the intention of bringing art closer to citizens and improving the aesthetic integration of the urban environment. These pieces, made by renowned artists of the contemporary Andalusian and Spanish scene, are considered elements of cultural and environmental interest according to the PGOU of Fuengirola.
Pedro Escalona’s mural, titled Module 483, is located in the Plaza de la Constitución and measures ten meters high by seven and a half meters wide, composed of forty-eight fiber cement panels. For its part, Enrique Brinkmann’s, The Night and the Day, is located on Avenida Condes de San Isidro, measures ten meters high by eight meters and seventy-five centimeters wide and is made up of fifty-six panels of the same material. Both works were installed in the 1980s within the City Council’s Special Ornament and Open Museum Plan, with the purpose of beautifying the city and promoting contemporary art in public spaces.
The project, awarded to the El Taller de Menia studio, has a total budget of 111,880.23 euros (VAT included) and an execution period of two months per mural. The action is subsidized by the Junta de Andalucía through the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports, within the framework of the MUNITUR 2024 program, which promotes conservation projects and enhancement of artistic and cultural heritage in Andalusian municipalities.
