The Fuengirola City Council expands the Avenida de las Gaviotas and improves the image with the demolition of the old pedestrian walkway of the N-340
The work has concluded with the elimination of the pedestrian crossing, which was in disuse after the incorporation of this road into the urban fabric of the city, two decades ago. The disappearance of this infrastructure has led to an improvement in the image of this point in the city, as well as pedestrian traffic on the sidewalks that the bridge occupied.
10/14/2025 – The Fuengirola City Council has expanded the Avenida de las Gaviotas and has improved its image with the demolition of the old pedestrian walkway of the N-340. The works have recently concluded and have been visited today by the mayor Ana Mula, and the councilors of Urban Planning and the Torreblanca neighborhood, Rocío Arriaga and María Hernández, respectively.

“This infrastructure was built decades ago to facilitate pedestrian crossing over the old National 340. With the integration of this road into the urban fabric and its transformation into an avenue, level pedestrian crossings were enabled, leaving the structure in disuse. Its demolition responds to criteria of functionality and adaptation to the current environment, since it did not fulfill its function, it was time to remove it. It is an action that the Neighbors had been asking for it for a long time, and rightly so, since the infrastructure had lost its usefulness,” explained the councilor, who also highlighted “the notable change” that the area has experienced.
In this way, the City Council has put out to tender this action on up to two occasions. In the last attempt, it was awarded to the company Marvel Construcciones, which carried out the demolition and removal works of the walkway for an amount of 106,843.46 euros and a completion period of 39 days.
In this sense, the intervention has allowed, in addition to reducing the visual impact produced by this old infrastructure, to gain space on the sidewalks, so that pedestrians passing through this area of Las Gaviotas Avenue can travel along them more easily.
As Mula has highlighted, this action has also been a repeated demand from residents in the area, since, in addition, it interfered with the property boundaries of two neighborhood communities.
“It is clear that it was an intervention that we had to do. It no longer made any sense to maintain it, and after preparing all the documentation and processing, we have been able to undertake it. We continue working, hand in hand with the neighbors, to improve our city,” concluded Ana Mula.
