‘Territory: The Costa del Sol in the photographic imaginary’
In August 2022, the Image collective set out to capture one year of the Costa del Sol in images, to show the different stations and variations between the seasonality of the population, the landscape, the cultural heritage and the uses and customs of this area.
The intention was not to obtain postcards of isolated monuments but not get photographs with many readings, where the human footprint is especially present. A collective work whose purpose is that anyone who inhabits this territory feels reflected.
A year and a half later they received the participation of 28 partners, with a total of 250 photographs, which were sent to Eduardo D’Asta, photographer, researcher, disseminator and teacher specialized in contemporary photography, at the School of Superior Art of Seville, so that they selected the ones that would be best identified with said project. He congratulated the high level of the photographs received and encouraged to prolong the project a few more months to, on the one hand, encourage the partners who had not joined the project and on the other, to emphasize the human factor, as an important part of the landscape we inhabit.
Following its advice, the deadline was extended until the end of August and on August 19, 2024, coinciding with the celebration of photography Day, rounded the collective project, with a special and participatory activity in our city, riding a street study on the Paseo Marítimo, in order to portray passers -by who voluntarily wanted to participate in this initiative.
Now, in 2025, the exhibition has been presented in which you can see more than 400 photographs of the 50 people who have collaborated in this macroproject.
The exhibition can be visited for free at the City Museum until September 28, from Tuesday to Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. CLOSED MONDAY.
