Fuengirola City Council continues to promote outdoor activity among older people with a new hiking route
It will be held on Saturday, June 20, at 9:00 a.m., leaving from Pedro Cuevas Square to reach Las Presas Park. Registration is free and can be done at the Senior Citizens’ offices on Blanca Paloma Street, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
10/6/2026 -The Departments of Senior Citizens and Sports of the Fuengirola City Council have organized a new hiking route aimed at the elderly in the municipality with the aim of promoting healthy living habits, promoting physical activity and encouraging coexistence in the open air. The initiative will take place next Saturday, June 20, and will depart at 9:00 a.m. from Plaza Pedro Cuevas, in Los Boliches, where participants will previously carry out a warm-up session before starting the journey to Parque de Las Presas, in Torreblanca.
The Councilor for Families, Equality and Social Welfare, Cristina Bornao, presented this activity, highlighting that “urban hiking routes are one of the most appreciated proposals by our elders and are part of the programming that we develop jointly with the Department of Sports to promote active and healthy aging.”
In this sense, the councilor has indicated that participation is completely free, although prior registration is required. “As in every edition, we will offer participants a healthy snack during the activity, so it is necessary to know the number of attendees in advance. Registration must be made at the Senior Citizens’ offices on Blanca Paloma Street, from nine in the morning to one in the afternoon,” he explained.
The low-profile route, which lasts approximately two and a half hours, will end at Parque de Las Presas, one of the most prominent natural spaces in the city. With an area of more than eleven hectares, this enclave is home to a rich variety of plant species, among which eucalyptus, stone pines, Aleppo pines, mastic trees and holm oaks stand out, which coexist with a diverse local fauna.
In addition, the park is crossed by the Arroyo de Las Presas, whose presence brings freshness and greenery to the environment, making it an ideal space for walking, resting and contact with nature.
Finally, Bornao has encouraged all the elderly in Fuengirola to join this initiative. “It is a healthy, free and very pleasant activity that allows you to enjoy our natural environment, exercise and share a different morning with other people. We invite all our elders to participate and take advantage of this opportunity,” he concluded.
