1/27/2026 -All Fuengirola sports clubs will join the fight against cancer by wearing the so-called ‘Bracelet of Hope’, a solidarity initiative that will take place during the weekend of February 7 and 8, coinciding with the commemoration that week of World Cancer Day.
The announcement was made this morning by the Sports Councilor of the Fuengirola City Council, Julio Rodríguez; the president of the AECC Fuengirola-Mijas, Belén Conejo; and the president of Athletic Fuengirola, José Mérida, who have highlighted the solidarity and awareness-raising nature of this joint action.
Belén Conejo explained that this campaign, promoted by the Fuengirola City Council together with the Spanish Association Against Cancer, aims to “highlight the enormous effort made by society as a whole in the fight against this disease.” Under the name ‘Bracelets of Hope’, the initiative will consist of all sports clubs in the municipality wearing a green bracelet during their official competitions. “In addition to promoting the values of sport, we want to make visible the tireless work of professionals, volunteers, public administrations, private companies and all citizens,” he noted.
For his part, José Mérida thanked the AECC and the City Council “for having counted on the sports clubs to collaborate in a solidarity initiative that highlights the great work that this association carries out on a daily basis.” In this sense, he stressed that it is “a job that is often invisible, but fundamental for people who suffer from this disease and for their families.”
The Councilor for Sports, Julio Rodríguez, highlighted that “sport and solidarity once again go hand in hand in Fuengirola for a just and necessary cause”, while thanking the president of the AECC for her constant involvement in the development of joint actions with the City Council to publicize the work carried out by the entity throughout the year.
Likewise, Rodríguez pointed out that “on the occasion of World Cancer Day, what better way to involve citizens than by making boys, girls and players become captains of this cause.” During that weekend, participants in official matches will wear the green armband as a symbol of support and hope for patients and their families, who live with this disease every day.
