Fuengirola City Council reinforces security during the rainy season with new tools and advanced planning
The new municipal video surveillance system will allow risk areas to be monitored and communication channels with citizens in these situations have been specified. The Government team is finalizing the development of the new Municipal Emergency Plan with which to face any weather phenomenon
10/28/2025 -Fuengirola City Council is reinforcing security during the rainy season with new tools and advanced planning that will allow it to respond more effectively to episodes of heavy rain. This is the objective with which Mayor Ana Mula and the Councilor for Citizen Security, José Luis Ponce, met today with leaders of the Local Police and Firefighters at the Municipal Emergency Coordination Center.
During the meeting, the councilor and the sector’s technicians have addressed coordination and planning measures before the start of the rainy season with the aim of anticipating risk scenarios and optimizing the operational response to possible episodes of intense rain.
“Fuengirola is a safe and orderly city. And it is, among other things, for two reasons: because it has human and technical means to act in case of emergency, and because they have plans to foresee and act if necessary. One of the phenomena to which we are most exposed are floods. You all know that, when a weather warning is activated, we take the organization of the response very seriously. But, for that, now that we are Immersed in the fall and the time of greatest risk, we met to reinforce coordination, planning and response,” said Mula.

Thus, at the meeting they analyzed in detail the historical cases of incidents due to water accumulations and the sensitive points of the municipality were reviewed, in order to plan preventive interventions and effective responses. The main objective is to achieve a rapid, structured and safe reaction by the municipal services involved.
Along these lines, the action protocols for warnings from the State Meteorological Agency have been reviewed, determining the specific measures to be adopted depending on the warning level (yellow, orange or red), both in relation to operational means and communications with the population.
One of the highlights has been the use of new technological tools for emergency management. Specifically, the incorporation of the use of municipal video surveillance cameras for real-time monitoring of critical areas, such as streams and channels. These devices will allow emergency services to directly and immediately monitor any evolution of risk.
The warning thresholds and citizen information channels have also been discussed, such as municipal social networks or the Citizen Card mobile application. What the local executive wants in this type of situation is to keep the population informed through official and reliable channels, which can prevent the spread of hoaxes, and with the aim that residents can follow the evolution of a possible emergency in real time and adopt self-protection measures if necessary.
This meeting was held within the framework of the final phase of preparation of the new Municipal Emergency Plan, as well as the Flood Action Plan -both in development-, which will integrate the technical and operational conclusions of these coordination meetings. Both instruments are intended to provide the municipality with modern, realistic planning adapted to the current hydrometeorological risk.
“We continue to reinforce our commitment to safety, prevention and the modernization of emergency management,” the mayor concluded.
