The Fuengirola City Council reaches 90% of LED technology in the city’s public lighting and advances towards full implementation
More than 4,000 new lights have already been installed since last May, which is already resulting in savings of one million kWh annually and 330 tons of less CO2. This technology is more ecological, economical and can be controlled remotely through a digital management platform
10/20/2025 – The Fuengirola City Council has reached 90% of LED technology in the city’s public lighting and is advancing towards its full implementation, as announced today by Mayor Ana Mula, who together with the Councilor for Innovation, Isabel González, and the Councilor for Infrastructure, José Sánchez, has visited the work that the service is carrying out in Torreblanca, specifically on Cáctus Street. As highlighted, the operators of the Energy Services Company (ESE) have already replaced, since the beginning of their work in May of this year, 4,007 public lights.
“In May we started the exciting project to switch to LED in all the city’s lighting. You will have seen in all the neighborhoods how the operators are progressing, as they carry out the planned planning on a weekly basis. We are reaching the final stretch of this first phase, since three out of four streetlights in Fuengirola already use this technology. And if we analyze it in total figures, in the 13,300 luminaires that the city has, we can proudly say “That 90% of them already illuminate with LED technology,” said the councilor.

In total figures, as has been highlighted, Fuengirola already has more than 11,000 replaced lights (90%) of the 13,300 that it has throughout its entire municipal area. According to technical reports, once 100% implemented, it will mean a reduction in annual electricity consumption of 1,600,000 kilowatt hours, as well as a reduction in CO2 emissions into the atmosphere of about 500 tons.
The Fuengirola Town Council’s commitment to LED technology in 100% of the town will be a reality, according to the forecast of the technical managers of the service, before the end of the year, so that the maximum annual consumption will be 1,845,696 kWh. The document for this benefit specifies that the Energy Services Company (ESE) is responsible for implementing this technology in public lighting devices that still use another system, during the first year of the contract. Likewise, it is also responsible for the maintenance, repair and conservation of the entire municipal lighting network.
The budget for this service, which was awarded to the company Ibérica de Construcciones Eléctricas SA, amounts to 11,855,793.26 euros for a period of fifteen years. Of this economic amount, the winning company will have to dedicate 5,457,137.49 euros to the acquisition of the means to replace the nearly 5,600 streetlights that are not yet governed by this system with LEDs.
“We are moving towards the goal of 100% energy efficiency in our city and the provision of quality electrical service, according to the needs of a city like Fuengirola. Once again, innovation at the service of Fuengirola residents,” concluded Ana Mula.
