11/19/2025 – Fuengirola City Council will commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, on November 25, with two institutional events: the reading of a manifesto and a round table titled ‘Contexts of special vulnerability for gender violence’. The Councilor for Families, Equality and Social Welfare, Cristina Bornao, has detailed that the event will take place in the Royal Hall of the Consistory from 12:00 p.m., “to make it clear that Fuengirola is with women.”
Bornao has indicated that the event will begin with the reading of the manifesto by the mayor. Next, the round table will begin, focused on analyzing the different situations that aggravate women’s vulnerability to gender violence, such as disability, migrant status or the presence of addictions.
To address these realities, the meeting will have the participation of professionals specialized in caring for women from these groups: Lucía Díaz, psychologist from AFESOL; Rosa Díaz Cuenca, social worker from Málaga Acoge; and Mercedes Cortés Lara, social worker at the Alternativa 2 Ambulatory Treatment Center.
“Violence against women is a structural problem that requires the involvement of the entire society. From the Fuengirola City Council we maintain a firm commitment to its prevention and eradication,” the councilor stressed. In this sense, he recalled that the municipality has had the Municipal Information Center for Women for more than thirty years, one of the pioneers at the regional level, which offers specialized psychological, legal and social care. Likewise, he highlighted the work carried out in the municipality by the Viogen unit, dedicated to the protection of women victims of gender violence.
Bornao has reiterated “the firm commitment of the mayor and the Government team in a particularly complex moment, in which on the one hand violence against women is denied and, on the other, they are used as mere merchandise.” For this reason, he has insisted on the importance of continuing to promote awareness-raising actions and encourage citizen participation: “In Fuengirola we once again raise our voices and encourage citizens to walk united against any form of violence against women.”
The councilor has also highlighted that the 25N events will also have a marked protest character: “We defend women’s rights and reject the instrumentalization of gender violence in the political debate. Its elimination is a collective challenge and can only be achieved through unity and common commitment, as we have always demonstrated in Fuengirola.”
