The Fuengirola City Council reinforces citizen security with the Special Summer Device of the Local Police
It will begin on June 12 and will remain active until September 13, with more than 10,500 overtime hours of service to redouble the police presence. It will pay special attention to leisure areas, road safety, coexistence, compliance with municipal ordinances, illegal street vending and public spaces with greater influx.
6/8/2026 – Fuengirola City Council reinforces citizen security with the Local Police Summer Special Device. An extraordinary operation, which will be in force until Sunday, September 13, aimed at reinforcing security, coexistence and response capacity during the summer season. To achieve this, more than 10,500 overtime hours of service will be activated, which represents an increase of just over 100 hours compared to last year.
The mayor, Ana Mula, together with the Councilor for Citizen Security, José Luis Ponce, and the head of the Local Police, Sergio Luna, has presented this special planning, which is activated in the months in which Fuengirola reaches its highest levels of citizen, tourist, commercial, hospitality and leisure activity.

“Fuengirola is a safe and orderly city, which experiences summer with enormous intensity. Our beaches, promenades, neighborhoods, shops, restaurants and leisure areas multiply their activity, and that requires planning, presence and response capacity. This device is born precisely from that reality: to anticipate, prevent incidents and guarantee that neighbors and visitors can enjoy a safe, orderly city with clear rules,” said the councilor.
The device will be developed progressively, with greater intensity during the months of July and August, and will be especially aimed at reinforcing the police presence in the strips and spaces of greatest activity. In this sense, specific attention will be paid to leisure areas, the surroundings of the Paseo Marítimo, beaches, parks, squares, shopping areas, neighborhoods and public spaces where a greater influx of people is concentrated during the summer season.
In addition, road safety controls will be available throughout all the city’s neighborhoods and at different time periods, with the aim of preventing behaviors that put the safety of pedestrians, drivers and users of personal mobility vehicles at risk. These operations will be developed in a dynamic and random manner, adapting to the operational needs of each moment.
The main functions of the agents assigned to the device will be the monitoring of compliance with municipal ordinances, the prevention and action against illegal street vending, the control of the occupation of public roads, the monitoring of leisure and hospitality areas, the prevention of drinking, the consumption or sale of narcotics in public spaces, the support for road safety and attention to incidents that may occur during the busiest months.
“We are talking about an unusual police effort for a city of these characteristics. And we do it without complexes, with a firm decision and with a very clear idea: security is not improvised. It is studied, planned, executed, evaluated and improved again. This work cycle is what has allowed us to accumulate very valuable experience in the management of the summer in Fuengirola, and that experience is put at the service of the city,” added Mula.
The police device will also be integrated into the set of municipal resources that reinforce security during the summer. In the area of beaches, Fuengirola has a rescue and lifeguard service, beach surveillance, health care and an aerial surveillance system with drones, which allows prevention, surveillance and support work to be carried out in the event of possible incidents on the coast. These means join the work of the Local Police to offer a coordinated response in a city with more than seven kilometers of coastline and a high influx of users during the summer season.
“Fuengirola is a safe and orderly city, but precisely for this reason we cannot let our guard down. Security is an essential part of our quality of life and also of our image as a tourist destination. Whoever lives in Fuengirola and whoever visits us has to know that this is an open, welcoming and happy city, but also a city with order, with coexistence and with rules that are met,” the highest authority of the municipality has reiterated.
Finally, Ana Mula has appealed to citizen collaboration and responsibility so that the summer passes normally. In this sense, he recalled that in the event of any incident, Fuengirola residents and visitors can notify the police forces by calling 112.
