The Fuengirola City Council encourages residents to collaborate in the preparation of municipal accounts with the 2027 participatory budgets

Fuengirola residents will be able to present their proposals from June 8 to July 22 through the Open Government platform. The process will also include the phases of evaluation of initiatives, citizen voting and publication of the winning projects.

5/6/2026 – The Fuengirola City Council launches a new edition of the Participatory Budgets with the aim of promoting the direct involvement of residents in the planning of municipal investments. This has been announced by the Councilor for the Treasury, Rosa Ana Bravo, who has reported that on June 8 the deadline will open for citizens to present their proposals for the preparation of the 2027 municipal accounts. Initiatives can be registered until July 22 through the Consistory’s Open Government platform, specifically enabled for this participatory process.

“We are starting a new edition of the Participatory Budgets to continue advancing in an increasingly closer and participatory city model, where residents have the opportunity to directly decide which actions they consider priority to improve their environment and their quality of life,” said Bravo.

The councilor explained the process of this edition of the participatory budgets, which is divided into four phases: Collection of proposals, from June 8 to July 22; evaluation of the proposals received and selection of the finalists, from July 23 to August 7; voting on finalist proposals, from August 8 to 31; and publication of the same, on September 1.

In this sense, Bravo has pointed out that “in this edition we have extended the deadline for collecting proposals, until July 22, because we think it is the most important part of the process in which citizens can transfer their ideas, needs and projects to continue building the municipality that we all want.”

On the other hand, Bravo has explained that “if some of the proposed proposals are viable and have a place within the 2026 municipal budget, they can also become a reality. Actions such as, for example, the repair of some steelwork, some small work or some infrastructure intervention, which have a place in this year’s budget, we will be able to execute as soon as possible and we will not have to wait until 2027 to do so.”

The councilor recalled that participatory budgets are not the only participation channel that the City Council has, “throughout the year we maintain open communication with residents through email from the different council departments, neighborhood councillors, visits to neighborhoods or meetings with residents, among other means of communication.”

With initiatives like this, the City Council tries to seek the closeness and participation of all neighbors and new technologies offer a channel through which to do so. For this reason, once again this year, the Participatory Budgets are made available to residents, which are available at the following link: https://gobiernoabierto.fuengirola.es/pt/process/40. “You just have to enter that page, see how it works, how the process is going to develop and present the proposals,” he noted.

To conclude, Bravo has encouraged residents to contribute their proposals to the participatory budgets, “because it is a way to channel their initiatives and reinforce the active listening work that we carry out throughout the year to continue improving our city together.”
