3/6/2026 – Fuengirola City Council reports on the Provincial Prize for International Solidarity and Human Rights, organized by the Malaga Provincial Council and endowed with 10,000 euros. The objective of this award is to recognize the work of people or non-profit organizations, related to the province, that distinguish themselves by supporting solidarity with people in need and the fight against poverty in vulnerable communities. Candidates can be submitted until June 17.

This was announced by the councilor of the Fuengirola City Council and deputy of the Third Sector and International Cooperation, Francisco José Martín, indicating that the regulatory bases were published on May 27 in the Official Gazette of the Province. “It is a recognition that is aimed at both individuals and entities that work on cooperation and is endowed with a financial prize of ten thousand euros.”

Martín recalled that “two years ago it was a woman from Fuengirola who benefited from this recognition and this financial endowment. Virginia Alfaro Calvo was recognized for her work as a cooperator, first in Honduras and later in Central Africa, where she has carried out work as a missionary.”

Individuals, non-profit entities and private initiatives that have carried out exceptional work in the fight against poverty and improving the living conditions of vulnerable communities may be candidates for the award.

Candidate people, organizations or initiatives will have to be proposed by a natural person or public or private entity different and unrelated to them, self-proposals being expressly excluded. All processing will be carried out through the Electronic Registry of the Provincial Council of Malaga.

Among the winners of other editions are the UPlanet association, which received the award last year; Virginia Alfaro Calvo from Fuengirola, lay missionary of the Misevi Association, who was awarded in 2024 for her work in Honduras, Mozambique and Angola. In 2022 it was the Brazadas Solidarias entity that won the award; while in 2021 the award went to Pozos sin Fronteras and in 2020 it was won by Manos Unidas.
