Institutional declaration of congratulations from the Corporate Plenary to clubs and athletes from Fuengirola
5/27/2026 – The Plenary Session of the Fuengirola City Council has approved in its ordinary session for the month of May, held today, an institutional motion to publicly congratulate several athletes from the city for the merits achieved in different sports competitions held recently.
On behalf of the entire municipal Corporation, the mayor of Fuengirola, Ana Mula, has conveyed congratulations to all the distinguished athletes and entities, highlighting “the effort, perseverance, talent and spirit of improvement that they represent and that contribute to bringing the name of Fuengirola to the top of the sport.”
Fishing
Among the approved recognitions is the one dedicated to the athletes of the La Baila Fishermen’s Club for the excellent results obtained in the latest Andalusian sport fishing competitions. At the XXXVII Andalusian Mar Costa Youth U21 Championship, held in Roquetas de Mar (Almería), Manuel Sánchez Maravel was proclaimed champion of Andalusia U21, also qualifying for the next Spanish Championship, which will be held in September in the Region of Murcia.
Likewise, the team formed by Araceli García Castillo, Remedios Alcázar Mancera, Andrea Zotes Muñoz and Manuel Sánchez Maravel, as captain, won the title in the V Andalusian Mar Costa Clubes Ladies Championship held in Almuñécar (Granada), also obtaining a pass for the Spanish Championship that will take place in Peñíscola.

The Municipal Corporation has also congratulated the Fuengirola Squash Club and its veteran athletes for their brilliant performance in different national and international events. Among the most notable achievements are the titles of Spanish champions achieved by Neill Maccarron (+45), Pedro Ríos Cuevas (+60) and Pedro Domínguez Vázquez (+70) in the Spanish Veterans Squash Championship held in Tenerife.
They also stood out in the Gibraltar Master Open, belonging to the European Circuit, where Pedro Ríos Cuevas was once again proclaimed champion, Wenceslao García Durán was runner-up and Pedro Domínguez Vázquez won a new title in the +70 category. In addition, the Fuengirola Squash Club achieved a creditable third place in the Spanish Club Championship held in Sestao (Vizcaya).
Athletics
Another recognition has gone to the athlete Beatriz Rubio Lastra for her outstanding participation in the Olympus Race Andorra –
Skating
The Plenary Session has also highlighted the excellent results obtained by the El Tejar Skating Club in the Andalusian Solo Dance Figure Skating Championship held in the Juan Gómez “Juanito” pavilion in Fuengirola, as well as in the second round of the World Cup held in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Germany).
Among the most notable results are the gold medals won by Francisco Cueto Porras, Sofía Suárez Pérez, Julia Rodríguez Rodríguez, Natalia Baldizzone Morales and Alejandro Ríos Gómez, in addition to the silver and bronze medals obtained by other members of the club in different categories. Likewise, Natalia Baldizzone Morales won gold in the World Cup in Women’s Senior Solo Dance and Francisco Cueto Porras won bronze in Men’s Mini Dance Solo.
Karate
The institutional statement also includes a congratulation to the young athletes of the Fuengirola Karate Club for their performance in the Spanish Children’s Karate Championship held in Oviedo, where Valeria Alexandra Singh Palomo was proclaimed runner-up of Spain in Kata Benjamín Femenino and Nicolás Pusztai won the bronze medal in Children’s Kumite Men’s +45 kilograms.
Padel
Likewise, the Plenary has recognized the success of the local athlete Ramón Moreno Meléndez, who was proclaimed Spanish University Padel champion in the pairs modality during the competition held in Malaga.
Basketball
The senior women’s team of the Salliver Basketball Club has also received institutional congratulations for the extraordinary season carried out in the 2025/2026 N1 Women’s National League. The Fuengirola team had a brilliant regular season, finishing in second position among fourteen teams, and managed to become runner-up in the Final held at the Juan Gómez “Juanito” pavilion in Fuengirola.
Triathlon
Finally, Mayor Ana Mula, on behalf of the Municipal Corporation, congratulated the winners of the I Fuengirola City Triathlon in the supersprint mode, Vera Ramos Pérez and Victoriano Raso Moreno, as well as all the participants, volunteers and organizers who made possible the success of this first edition, which brought together 300 athletes and recorded an outstanding female participation, consolidating itself as one of the most relevant emerging sports events in the province.
