5/26/2026 – The Port of Fuengirola will be the scene next Saturday, June 6, of the XXIV edition of the Children’s Fishing Contest, an activity organized by the El Puerto Sport Fishing Club in collaboration with the city council and aimed at children between 6 and 14 years old, with the aim of promoting the love of sport fishing and respect for the marine environment among the youngest.

The Councilor for Sports, Julio Rodríguez, together with the president and the fishing member of the organizing club, Pedro Núñez and Juan Sánchez, respectively, have presented this initiative, which will once again bring together dozens of families in a fun and educational day by the sea.

Rodríguez has highlighted the close collaboration that the El Puerto Sport Fishing Club maintains with the City Council and its constant commitment to the promotion of nautical and environmental activities in the city. “In addition to organizing competitions for experienced fishermen, the club develops very valuable initiatives such as this children’s contest, the inclusive fishing contest that they hold within the Fuengirola en Forma program or the seabed cleaning days that they promote periodically. These are activities that promote sport, respect for the sea and coexistence,” said the mayor.

In this sense, Rodríguez has stressed that “the Children’s Fishing Contest has now reached its twenty-fourth edition, consolidated as an activity highly anticipated by Fuengirola families. It is a magnificent opportunity for children to have their first contact with fishing, learn from experienced fans and enjoy a different day in the company of their parents.”

For his part, Pedro Núñez explained that participants must be accompanied by a tutor. The contest will officially start at 10:30 a.m. and throughout the day the minors will be accompanied by instructors and members of the club, who will teach them basic notions about using the rod, setting the hook or placing the bait.

Likewise, Juan Sánchez has indicated that all participants will receive a fishing rod, in addition to the bait and the necessary material to carry out the activity. They will also be given a commemorative t-shirt and cap, as well as a diploma and a medal as a souvenir of the day.

The contest also has an important educational and environmental awareness component, since all the catches made will be returned to the sea after explaining to the children the characteristics of the different species caught and the importance of preserving the marine ecosystem.
