4/13/2026 -The Senior Citizens and Sports areas of the Fuengirola City Council have organized a new hiking route with the aim of promoting outdoor physical activity among the city’s elderly people. The initiative will take place on Saturday, April 25, starting at 9:00 a.m., leaving from Plaza de España after a warm-up. The councilors of Social Welfare and Sports, Cristina Bornao and Julio Rodríguez, respectively, have given more details of this activity.
“We are very happy to present one of the activities most loved by our elders, such as the urban hiking activities that we organize transversally with the Department of Sports and that on this occasion will take us to the Peñón del Cura,” explained Bornao.
In this sense, the councilor has indicated that “in these activities we always provide a healthy snack and for this it is essential to know in advance how many people are going to participate. Therefore, it is necessary to register in advance at the Senior Citizens’ offices on Blanca Paloma Street, from nine in the morning to one in the afternoon.”
For his part, the Councilor for Sports, Julio Rodríguez, has indicated that “every month we organize jointly with the Department of Families, Equality and Social Welfare a hiking activity and, in addition to the event on April 25, we already have two other activities scheduled for the months of May and June.”
Regarding the hiking route, the mayor has indicated that “it will last about two hours to cover about 7.5 kilometers. It will begin at nine in the morning in the Plaza de España, where we will do a joint warm-up before leaving along the Paseo Marítimo towards the Sohail castle to reach the Senda Litoral to the Peñón del Cura beach. We will return through the Chaparral and the area where the Fire Station is located.”
To conclude, Rodríguez has encouraged all older people to participate, “because it is a healthy activity that has no cost for the participants. You just have to register and have a good day enjoying the outdoors and practicing sports.”
