The City Council pays tribute to the city’s seafaring tradition with the exhibition ‘Fuengirola, the art of fishing’

The exhibition, which will open to the public on April 16, at 7:00 p.m. at the City Museum, will host more than thirty replicas of fishing, recreational and maritime rescue boats.

The City Council will pay tribute to the city’s seafaring tradition with the exhibition ‘Fuengirola, the art of fishing’, an exhibition based on Juan Haro’s collection that will open to the public on April 16, at 7:00 p.m., at the City Museum. This cultural activity was presented today by the Councilor for Culture, Rodrigo Romero, who was accompanied by the promoter of the initiative himself.

During his speech, Romero highlighted that “this exhibition highlights our roots and Fuengirola’s close relationship with the sea. In it, we will be able to see the collection of replicas of boats made by Juan Haro, who in recent years has dedicated his time to creating with his own hands reproductions of fishing, recreational and maritime rescue boats”, while Haro has pointed out that “each piece is made with dedication and seeks to keep the memory of fishing and its people alive.”

In the City Museum you can see more than thirty of these pieces, which are complemented by an exhibition of implements and utensils from the last century. Likewise, the exhibition includes archaeological materials related to fishing, found in the Roman City of Suel, which will provide a historical perspective of this activity in the municipality.

The exhibition is completed with a collection of black and white photographs that evoke the Fuengirola of yesteryear, offering visitors an emotional journey through a time when the sea marked the daily lives of its inhabitants. Many of these images have been contributed by the protagonists themselves or their descendants, which reinforces the close and testimonial nature of the exhibition.

In short, it is a journey through time that will allow us to rediscover a way of life linked to the sea and better understand the identity of generations of Fuengirola residents. Visiting hours will be from Tuesday to Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., remaining closed on Mondays.
