04/08/2026.- Fuengirola will bring together authorities from all over the world at the III International Open Cities Forum on April 27. The mayor of Fuengirola, Ana Mula, together with the Councilor for Tourism, José Luis Ponce, today presented this event, with which the town will become the epicenter of global debate about the present and future of municipalities and tourist countries. The meeting, which will take place prior to the XXX International Fair of Countries (FIP), will take place at the Peace Palace and will feature high-ranking institutional, diplomatic and business representatives from countries around the world.
“Fuengirola is an international and cosmopolitan city. 135 nationalities live there in complete harmony. The maximum expression of this open and multicultural spirit is manifested, every year, with the International Country Fair. And for two years, also with another event that reinforces our vocation as a town open to the world. A meeting place where we reflect on the future and sustainability of tourist activity. I am talking about the International Forum of Open Cities, which today I announce that we will celebrate on the 27th of April,” explained the councilor.
The event will have the confirmed presence of the head of the Market and Attractiveness Unit at the Department of Environment and Business Life of Malmo (Sweden), Anna Wittgren; the minister of the Japanese Embassy, Shinichi Sato; the delegate of the Ministry of Tourism in Tetouan (Morocco), Omar Zekari; of the president of the Andean Community – of which Bolivia, Colombia and Ecuador are part -, Gustavo Pacheco. A list that may be expanded in the coming days.
As Ana Mula has indicated, the meeting aims to share and learn, for the enrichment of all those present, initiatives that have been successful through the balance, from the Administration, of the activity of the tourism sector with the necessary sustainability and comfort of resident citizens.
The event will be held in two sessions. One in the morning, after the inauguration, at 10:30 a.m., and until 1:00 p.m. And the afternoon, which will take place from 4:30 p.m. until seven in the afternoon.
“It is a magnificent way to declare our clear international vocation as a city and to celebrate it, after this event, in the festive and joyful way that characterizes Fuengirola through the FIP. I invite you to participate in the great celebration of multiculturalism, starting with this forum, with which we are going to place Fuengirola as a point of global debate,” Mula concluded.
