The Mayor’s Office of El Boquetillo will host on March 24 the talk ‘Feather and courage: the strength of a woman told in her books’

The activity, organized by the Department of Families, Equality and Social Welfare within the ‘Fuengirola por Ellas’ program, will feature the participation of the writer Encarnación Reina Sánchez

3/16/2026 – The Councilor for Families, Equality and Social Welfare of the Fuengirola City Council, Cristina Bornao, today presented the talk ‘Feather and courage: the strength of a woman told in her books’, an activity organized to commemorate International Women’s Day and framed in the municipal program ‘Fuengirola for Women’. The meeting will take place on March 24, at 6:00 p.m., at the Mayor’s Office of El Boquetillo, with free entry until capacity is reached.

During the talk, attendees will be able to get up close and personal with the writer Encarnación Reina Sánchez, author of the books ‘From Innocence to Fury’ and ‘Bitter Olives’, two deeply testimonial works that give voice to an entire generation of Andalusian women who remained silenced for decades.

Through its pages, the author collects stories marked by realities such as social stigma towards the daughters of single mothers, imposed marriages or the lack of educational opportunities for many girls, reflecting a society dominated by fear, machismo and forced obedience, where women barely had the capacity to decide over their own lives.

However, as Bornao has pointed out, “Encarnación Reina’s work does not remain solely in the pain of the past, but also transmits a message of strength, dignity and hope for all women.”

In this sense, the councilor highlighted that the author’s books “value the courage of many women who lived through difficult times, reminding us that today we live in a more just and conscious society, and that knowing the past is essential so that these situations are not repeated.”

Thus, the literature of Encarnación Reina Sánchez is presented as an exercise in memory, resistance and vindication, which invites us to reflect on the path taken in terms of equality and on the importance of continuing to advance.

With this initiative, the Fuengirola City Council continues to develop the ‘Fuengirola for Women’ program, which during these weeks brings together different cultural, training and awareness activities with the aim of promoting equality and making visible the role of women in society.
