Fuengirola’s libraries register more than 23,500 visitors in the first two months of 2026, 15% more than last year
The Councilor for Culture, Rodrigo Romero, has highlighted the increase in users, the growth of child loans and the success of cultural activities
3/16/2026 – The Councilor for Culture of the Fuengirola City Council, Rodrigo Romero, held a press conference today to present the balance of activity of the Municipal Library Network during the months of January and February 2026, a period in which 23,548 visitors have been registered, which represents an increase of 15.48% compared to the same period in 2025.
Romero has positively valued these data, which reflect “the growing interest of residents in the cultural services offered by municipal libraries, both in the field of reading and in the programming of activities.”
Among the most notable data, the councilor has highlighted the significant increase in loans of children’s books, especially in the Gloria Fuertes Library, which has become the one that lends the most copies of this type in the city. During the first two months of the year, 2,293 child loans have been registered compared to 1,704 the previous year, which represents an increase of 35%.
In addition, the total number of members of the library network continues to grow and already reaches 68,754 users, 4.93% more than in 2025.
In this sense, Romero has especially highlighted the growth of the Gloria Fuertes Library, which has practically doubled the number of new members compared to last year thanks to the opening of its new facilities.
Another service that has been well received has been the Los Boliches study room, which opened its doors on January 19 and has already been used by 769 people during its first weeks of operation.
Success of cultural activities
During this first two months of the year, 68 cultural activities have been scheduled, aimed at adults, youth and children. In this section, the growth in participation in the activities of the ‘Fuengirola entre Letras’ cycle stands out, where adult audience attendance has increased by 52%, with an average of 70 attendees per activity.
One of the most notable events was the visit of the writer Rosa Montero, which achieved two full capacity with a total of 375 participants. In recent months, other prestigious authors such as Santiago Posteguillo, Manuel Rivas and David Trueba have also filled the venue, the latter with an appointment scheduled for the month of March.
Municipal libraries have also experienced notable growth in their digital presence. During these two months, 332 contents have been published on social networks and the Instagram profile has added 753 new followers, compared to 225 in the same period of the previous year, which represents an increase of 234%.
Likewise, the library website has registered a significant increase in activity, with 1,900 users and 13,290 page views, while the WhatsApp channel, created in 2025, already has 561 followers.
Upcoming activities
Looking ahead to the coming months, the Fuengirola Library Network will continue to expand its programming with centers of interest and special activities on the occasion of different literary anniversaries, such as International Comic Book Day (March 17), Oral Storytelling Day (March 20), Poetry Day (March 21), Theater Day (March 27), Children’s and Youth Book Day (April 2) and Book Day (March 23). April).
Furthermore, around April 2, the winner of the V City of Fuengirola International Illustrated Album Award will be announced, one of the cultural competitions with the greatest international projection promoted by municipal libraries.
Romero concluded by highlighting that “these data confirm the good times that the Fuengirola library network is experiencing, which continues to grow in both users and activities and consolidating itself as a reference cultural space in the city.”
