The Department of Sports organizes seven activities within the International Women’s Day program ‘Fuengirola for them’
Tournaments, informative talks and workshops will be held during the month of March to commemorate 8M
3/2/2026 – The Sports Department of the Fuengirola City Council, headed by councilor Julio Rodríguez, has organized a total of seven activities that will be part of the municipal programming ‘Fuengirola for them’, designed to mark International Women’s Day, which is commemorated on March 8.

Rodríguez congratulated the Department of Equality, coordinated by councilor Cristina Bornao, “for the excellent program of activities prepared for this month, a transversal proposal that involves different municipal areas in the common commitment to equality.” In this sense, he pointed out that “from Sports we join this initiative with seven proposals that combine informative activities, tournaments and specific workshops.”
Sports tournaments
The calendar will begin on March 7 with the celebration of the III Women’s Squash Tournament, which will take place at the Elola sports complex from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The councilor thanked the involvement of Pedro Ríos and the Fuengirola Squash Club, who are also promoting free classes on Thursdays to encourage the practice of this discipline among women.
From March 20 to 22, the Elola sports complex will host a women’s paddle tennis tournament in the morning and afternoon. The event will be charitable, since the funds raised will go to the Apaffer Fibromyalgia Association.
Informative activities
On March 12, the Peace Palace will be the scene of the talk ‘Communication, Equality and Sports’, aimed especially at young people between 13 and 17 years old from Fuengirola high schools, although it will be open to the general public. The activity is organized in collaboration with the Malaga Sports Press Association and will feature the participation of prominent figures of Malaga women’s sports: Esther Sanz, president and monitor of the Sohail Badminton Club; Elena Moreno, captain of Unicaja Mijas basketball team; and María Farfán, captain of the Málaga CF women’s team.
Specific workshops
The program also includes two practical workshops. The first will be a Personal Defense workshop for women, which will be held on March 13, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Mayor’s Office of Los Boliches, taught by teacher Francis.
The second workshop, titled ‘Pelvic floor, strength training and menopause’, will take place on March 18, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Mayor’s Office of El Boquetillo, and will focus on female health and well-being.
To close the program, on March 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Juanito pavilion will host the ‘Yincana for good treatment’ activity, aimed at Primary Education students from the city’s educational centers.
With this set of initiatives, the Department of Sports reaffirms its commitment to promoting equality through sport, encouraging female participation, making references visible and promoting values such as respect, coexistence and good treatment.
