2/13/2026 – The Fuengirola Peace Palace will host the talk ‘Communication, Equality and Sport’ on March 12, which will feature the participation of athletes María Farfán, Esther Sanz and Elena Moreno. This was announced by the Sports Councilor, Julio Rodríguez, together with the representative of the Association of Sports Journalists of Malaga, Marina Rivas. The meeting will begin at 12:00 p.m. and will have free entry until capacity is reached.

Rodríguez explained that “for the third consecutive year we continue with an activity framed in International Women’s Week, in which the departments of Education, Equality and Sports collaborate to convey a message of equality through sport. We believe that it is a fundamental tool to talk about perseverance, sacrifice and work, as well as to break down barriers with examples and references for our youth.”

The mayor has pointed out that the three invited athletes, belonging to different disciplines and generations, will serve as an example for the students of schools and institutes. “We want to show that it is possible to make educational life compatible with sports and professional life. These talks also seek to mitigate the abandonment of sports between the ages of 13 and 17, especially among girls, and encourage physical activity to be part of their lives.”

The talk will be moderated by the Fuengirola journalist Pedro Espín and will include a discussion open to public participation.

For her part, Marina Rivas has reiterated “the commitment of the Malaga Sports Journalists Association to the Fuengirola City Council and our gratitude for the collaboration in events that promote values such as inclusion, equality, health and sport.” Likewise, he has highlighted the importance of institutional support to value the efforts and careers of athletes from across the province.

“We present a high-level poster with three references of Malaga women’s sports in an event open to both students and the general public,” he added.

Three references of Malaga women’s sports

Esther Sanz is president and monitor of the Sohail Badminton Club of Fuengirola, a discipline established in the city a little over a year ago and which already has around thirty students. In addition, she is a historic athlete as she is, to date, the only Olympian from Malaga in this modality.

María Farfán is captain of Málaga CF for women, a club in which she has developed her entire sporting career from the youth ranks to achieving promotion to the First Division. At the same time, she has completed her university studies and works as a coach.

For her part, Elena Moreno is captain of Unicaja Mijas, a team that competes in the second national category and currently occupies play-off positions for promotion to the highest division. He has experienced two promotions, is international with Spain and has combined his sporting career with his Physiotherapy career.
