The Fuengirola City Council advances in the creation of the Archaeological Visitor Center in the Peace Palace
The works, started last November, have an investment of 229,364 euros and a completion period of 108 days
9/1/2026 – The Fuengirola City Council continues to advance in the creation of the future Archaeological Visitor Center, which will allow the historical legacy of the city to be valued. The adaptation works of the space, located in the Peace Palace, are already underway after being awarded to the company Auna Ingeniería y Construcciones for an amount of 229,364 euros and a completion period of 108 days. The mayor of Fuengirola, Ana Mula, visited the work today accompanied by the Councilor for Culture, Rodrigo Romero, where she was able to see first-hand the development of this strategic action for the conservation and dissemination of local heritage.
“Fuengirola is a city with an extensive history that dates back to the Phoenicians. This Archaeological Visitor Center will be a fundamental tool to show, investigate and preserve the remains that connect us with our past, especially those linked to the environment of the Roman City of Suel,” highlighted the councilor.
The project contemplates the adaptation of a room located on the second floor of the cultural site of more than 200 m2 for use as an exhibition, research and storage space for archaeological remains from the municipality’s sites. Specifically, the works include the construction of a lobby, a large room for samples and archaeological work, two warehouses and a toilet.
Likewise, the new center will have independent access from the outside, which will facilitate entry to the public thanks to the installation of an elevator, thus reinforcing the universal accessibility of the space.
“With this action we take another step in our determined commitment to culture and history as hallmarks of Fuengirola’s identity. We not only protect our heritage, but we bring it closer to neighbors, visitors and researchers. Having a space like this will allow us to connect the youngest with our past, because they will not only be able to see the exposed remains, but also how they are worked with and what work archaeologists do with the pieces found. Group visits are one of the objectives we have set for ourselves, because they are essential to grow in the respect for our heritage and the pride of feeling part of a rich history,” stressed Ana Mula, who recalled that this new facility will be integrated into the city’s network of cultural resources.
The Archaeological Visitor Center of the Peace Palace will become a reference for the dissemination of the historical past of Fuengirola and a key space for professional investigation of the remains that the different works in the archaeological zones bring to light, giving continuity to the municipal commitment to the study and conservation and enhancement of the local archaeological heritage.
