The Fuengirola City Council declares three days of official mourning for the death of Manuel López Ayala, Favorite Son of the city


The flags on municipal buildings will fly at half-mast in his memory, remembrance and recognition. All municipal festive activities are also canceled until Sunday night.

12/12/2025 -The Fuengirola City Council has decreed three days of official mourning for the death this Friday, at 82 years of age, of Manuel López Ayala, Favorite Son of the city. During these three days, which begin today, the flags of the municipal buildings will fly at half-mast in their memory, remembrance and recognition, as announced by Mayor Ana Mula upon learning the sad news. All municipal festive activities until Sunday night are also cancelled.

“When someone is recognized with the highest honorary distinction of Fuengirola, it is because they have shown special affection, devotion and dedication to the city throughout their lives, as is the case of Manuel López Ayala. Today we are living a sad moment because we have lost one of our Favorite Sons, who will continue to be part of the history of the city and whose legacy will remain for posterity,” said Mayor Ana Mula.

Example of commitment to Fuengirola

Manuel López Ayala (Fuengirola, 1943) dedicated his life to the service of Fuengirola, contributing notably to the aggrandizement of our city in areas as diverse as sports, culture, politics, law, history or its traditions, being an unquestionable example of commitment to all groups, social and professional, of his beloved city.

The tireless dedication in the exercise of all the functions that he assumed with his well-known bonhomie and unstoppable drive, left a deep mark on those who shared efforts with him in fields as diverse as the presidency of CD Fuengirola, the world of horses, politics at the local and provincial level, as the first democratic deputy mayor (UCD) and vice president of the Provincial Council, or the practice of law, where he broke barriers by being the first lawyer from a municipality to be elected Deputy of the Board of Government of the Malaga Bar Association, of which he is also a Medal of Honor recipient, in addition to training more than 50 Fuengirola lawyers in his well-known office.
