The Revenge of Don Mendo is a comedy written by Pedro Muñoz Seca, considered a key work of 20th century Spanish literature. It is a parody of historical romantic drama, characterized by witty humor, unusual rhymes, wordplay, and an exaggerated plot.
The story revolves around Don Mendo and Magdalena, lovers whose relationship becomes complicated when Magdalena’s father commits her to the Duke of Toro. Magdalena manipulates Don Mendo to protect her reputation, leading the protagonist to swear revenge, although without breaking his initial promise.
The Muñoz Seca Theater Group was established around the year 2000 and since then they have not ceased to surprise with their skills on stage and their comic performances to make more than one smile. Their performances are agile, with fluid dialogues of singular wit and grace, they transmit light and color in their interpretations and their members radiate joy of life, being true masters in the characterization of popular types, and in creating sometimes bizarre situations. His performances abound with grace, salt, and mischief with a genuine comedic edge.
