“Satisfactory” balance of the security device at Christmas despite the fourteen weather warnings activated in this period
The Councilor for Citizen Security, José Luis Ponce, has highlighted the absence of personal injuries, the coordination between administrations and the exemplary behavior of citizens
7/1/2026 – The Councilor for Citizen Security of the Fuengirola City Council, José Luis Ponce, today offered an assessment of the special security device deployed during the Christmas period, marked by a particularly adverse weather situation, with up to fourteen warnings activated in the city: nine yellow, three orange and two red.
Ponce has stressed that, once the succession of storms has been overcome, “the balance is satisfactory, always with aspects to improve, but very satisfied with the work carried out by the Local Police and Firefighters, as well as the collaboration of the National Police, Civil Guard and the increasingly effective coordination with the 112 emergency service.”

During Christmas there were three especially complex days. The first was on December 27, with a red warning for rain and an orange warning for wind, which caused a notable increase in incidents throughout the afternoon and night. The second, on January 4, also with a red warning for rain, especially worrying due to the accumulation of precipitation in 12 hours and the consequent increase in the flow of the Fuengirola river. In this case, the City Council maintained constant communication with 112 and the State Meteorological Agency, activating preventive and coordination measures with the most vulnerable surrounding buildings. “At no time was there any danger to people’s lives, but all measures were prepared in case the situation required it,” said the mayor.
The third complicated day was yesterday, January 6, Three Kings Day, when, despite being a yellow warning, wind gusts exceeding 70 kilometers per hour were recorded. This situation caused more than 40 simultaneous medium-level incidents in different parts of the city, which forced staff to be reinforced and roadblocks activated in advance to restore normality as soon as possible.
Even today, the operational and cleaning services continue to work at different points so that the city fully recovers its usual state, as has been confirmed by the mayor Ana Mula, who has traveled to Alcalá Galiano street in Los Pacos, together with the Councilor for Cleaning, Carmen Díaz, to check the status of the work.
No personal injury
As the most notable aspects of the balance, Ponce has highlighted “the total absence of personal injuries, which is the most important thing, and the minimization of material damage.” Likewise, it has highlighted the coordination between the different security and emergency forces, both local and state, and the responsible attitude of citizens, even on days of great commercial and leisure activity.
Finally, the councilor wanted to thank “the presence and collaboration of the State security forces and bodies, the effort and availability of municipal professionals and, most especially, the collaboration of citizens, without which it would have been impossible to face the very complex Christmas that we have experienced.”
