Fuengirola City Council closes an illegal smoking club after a joint operation between the Local and National police

Those responsible for it did not have a municipal license for this type of activities and it has been confirmed that it functioned as a point of sale for narcotic substances. As a result of the intervention, the agents have arrested a person for a crime against public health and have seized more than a kilo of marijuana and 500 grams of hashish.

11/7/2025 – The Fuengirola City Council has closed an illegal smoking club, located on María Vega Sánchez street, after a joint operation between the Local and National police carried out last Wednesday, November 5. As a result of this intervention, the acting agents have arrested one person, denounced four clients present at the time and have seized nearly two kilos of narcotic substances.

“The Local Police, within its functions and powers, acts on numerous fronts in our city, such as traffic control, observance of compliance with ordinances, humanitarian aid work or monitoring school absenteeism, among other functions. But, in addition, to guarantee that Fuengirola is a safe municipality, we are in constant communication and coordination with the body that has full powers in matters of citizen security, the National Police. And an issue that concerns us a lot is the persecution of the clubs. of illegal smokers,” explained the Councilor for Citizen Security, José Luis Ponce.

The case in question was known to Local Police agents online. Those responsible for the establishment were advertising it on different pages and law enforcement officials suspected that he did not have the necessary documentation for such purposes and that, in addition, he could be selling narcotic substances.

After verifying that, indeed, they did not have a license, it was brought to the attention of the National Police, with whose heads of the Specialized and Violent Crime Unit (UDEV) they planned the joint action on November 5.

As a result, the interveners arrested the owner of the premises for a crime against public health and denounced four clients who were present at that time. During the operation, the police seized 1,310 grams of marijuana, 516 grams of hashish, 94 cigarettes with narcotic substances and 220 euros in cash.

Constant performances

“We are talking about illegal establishments, which pose as smoking clubs, when in reality crimes against public health occur due to the indiscriminate sale of narcotic substances. These interventions require a lot of prior observation work, which sometimes begins as a result of a complaint from nearby neighbors, and which ends with an entry operation into the premises to put an end to the activity. Coordination with the National Police is total. Carrying out continuous administrative and police work until we have the necessary evidence to incriminate its responsible,” explained the mayor.

In this sense, since the summer, the Local and National police have carried out seven joint interventions in this type of premises. As a result of these, there have been seven arrests, as well as the seizure and removal from circulation of more than seventeen kilos of marijuana and almost three kilos of hashish.
