10/24/2025 – Mayor Ana Mula today presented the IV International Illustrated Album Award ‘Ciudad de Fuengirola’ to the writer and illustrator Mireia Aleu i Barangé for her work ‘Pequeñísimo’, which was unanimously selected by the jury among the 102 proposals received from different parts of the world such as Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Ukraine, Italy, France, Great Britain, Russia or Mexico.
“Precisely today, coinciding with International Library Day, we deliver these distinctions with which we demonstrate our commitment to literary and artistic creativity. We have already reached the fourth edition of this project, which was first a dream of the Culture and Libraries team of the City Council and which is now a true reality,” said the councilor, highlighting that it is “an initiative that bears the name of our city and with which we have already achieved a gap in the international panorama of this beautiful literary discipline: that of illustrated albums.”

In this sense, the president has indicated that “again, together, and with the fundamental support of the publisher OQO, we are managing to make Fuengirola known as a cultural reference at an international level. Therefore, we are going to continue betting on illustrated albums with this award. For culture and for offering the beautiful world of children’s literature unique and original creations that bear the seal of the Fuengirola Brand, a place where we promote creativity and we want to bring together literary and illustration talent from around the world.”
In fact, as the mayor has highlighted, “we are the only city in Andalusia that is committed to awards of these characteristics, which are also the best equipped in all of Spain.”
Finally, Ana Mula reiterated her congratulations “to Mireia, the winner of the contest; my most sincere thanks also to OQO; to the jury; as well as to the entire team of the Municipal Library Network.”
During the event, the printed edition of the winning work ‘Pequeñísimo’, published by OQO Editora in Spanish, Catalan and Galician, was also presented, and the bases of the V edition of the contest were announced, both in Spanish and English, which are already published on the website of the library network.
