The Fuengirola City Council resumes the additional Cleaning Plan for persistent stains on public roads

Action will be taken on 20,000 square meters annually with specialized machinery, high-temperature water and biodegradable products to remove difficult stains such as chewing gum, grease, wax or animal urine.

10/23/2025 – Fuengirola City Council has resumed the Additional Plan for Intensive Cleaning of persistent stains on public roads, which will allow action on an area of up to 20,000 square meters annually. This measure, which was already carried out in the month of July in Pedro Cuevas Square, includes the use of specialized machinery, high temperature water and biodegradable products to remove especially difficult stains such as chewing gum, grease, candle wax, tires or remains of animal urine, among others. The Councilor for Cleaning, Carmen Díaz, visited the Paseo Marítimo today, in the area near the Puente de la Armada, where work has restarted.

“In the month of July, before the large influx of tourists in the summer, we began with the regeneration plan for paving, which was included in the new specifications of the municipal cleaning service. We started it in Pedro Cuevas Square and, once the summer was over, we continued with part of the Paseo Marítimo,” Díaz explained, pointing out that “we started in the area where the paving is older and which also has a lot of public influx. Specifically, we have started from the Puente de la Armada towards the central area and we have other workers who are working at the entrance to the port and are heading here. “Both will advance until they meet at an intermediate point and complete this entire section.”

Furthermore, as the councilor has indicated, “once we finish with the Paseo Marítimo, between now and the end of the year, we will apply this treatment in those areas of Fuengirola that are busiest throughout the year.”

To carry out these tasks, the plan contemplates the use of pressure cleaning machines with a minimum pressure of 300 bars and a flow rate of 18 liters/minute; heating modules ensuring a water outlet temperature of at least 95 °C; specific floor scrubbers, with working widths of 38 cm; lances and auxiliary equipment for hard-to-reach areas; and biodegradable chemicals, including degreasers and terpene-based solvents, that do not harm materials or the environment.

The work team is made up of qualified operators, who have a van equipped with a 1,000 liter water tank and all the necessary materials to carry out the service effectively.

In this sense, Díaz explained that “the difference between the usual disc cleaning and this special treatment that we are doing now is that the boiler is set to almost 120 degrees and a special liquid is also applied, stronger than the one usually used, so that the cleaning is more effective.”
