Fuengirola will once again host the V International Basketball Convention ‘CIBA 2026’ on June 27 and 28
Includes a 3×3 tournament with more than 700 players; the Olé Stars match, between Academy 675 (athletes with cognitive functional diversity) and athletes and former players, among other activities. On Saturday the 27th, the CIBA Forum will be held, a colloquium talk that will take place at the Peace Palace and in which the Huella awards will be presented.
6/8/2026 – Fuengirola will once again become the epicenter of national basketball on June 27 and 28 with the celebration of the V International Basketball Convention CIBA 2026, an event that will bring together more than a thousand professionals and fans of this sport around an extensive program of sports, training and solidarity activities.
The initiative, organized by the former international player and world champion Berni Rodríguez with the support and collaboration of the Fuengirola City Council, will take place between the Juan Gómez ‘Juanito’ pavilion and the Peace Palace. The event was presented today by Berni Rodríguez himself together with the Councilor for Sports, Julio Rodríguez.
“We are very happy to host the quintessential basketball event again in Fuengirola. CIBA is much more than a competition; it is a great party that brings together talent, values, fun and coexistence, consolidating our city as a benchmark in the organization of major sporting events,” Julio Rodríguez highlighted.
The councilor has also highlighted the social dimension of this initiative. “It is an event that transcends purely sports, because it promotes inclusion, solidarity and coexistence between people of all ages. In just ten days all registrations were sold out and it has been necessary to expand places in some categories due to high demand. We will once again bring together more than 700 players from different parts of Andalusia and thousands of visitors who will enjoy a unique weekend in our city.”
For his part, Berni Rodríguez thanked the Fuengirola City Council and the collaborating entities for their support, highlighting that the main objective of CIBA is to offer an unforgettable experience around basketball. “We want it to be a weekend to enjoy sports, share experiences and continue transmitting the values that basketball represents,” he said.
The programming will start on Saturday, June 27 in the Juan Gómez ‘Juanito’ pavilion, where six courts will be set up for the celebration of the CIBA 3×3 Open. The competition will feature the participation of more than 700 players of all categories, from premini to cadets. In addition, the surroundings of the sports facility will host a large area of activities and leisure linked to basketball.
That same day, starting at 10:00 a.m., the Peace Palace will be the scene of the CIBA Forum, a meeting space for professionals and amateurs that will include conferences, debate tables and specialized talks. Within this framework, the presentation of the Huella Awards will also be held, awards that recognize outstanding personalities and entities for their career, their values and their contribution to society. In previous editions, former players such as Pepe Sánchez, journalists such as Paloma del Río and María Casado, as well as organizations such as the Unicaja Foundation or The Sport Change Project have been distinguished.
The activities will continue on Sunday, June 28, in the morning with the dispute of the final phases of the 3×3 tournament and the celebration, in the afternoon, of the Olé Stars match, an original version of the traditional All Star in which a combination of athletes and former professional players will face the members of the 675 Academy, made up of athletes with cognitive functional diversity.
Starting at 6:00 p.m., the Baby Basket party will also take place, an activity aimed at the little ones that will feature the participation of more than a hundred children, putting the finishing touch to a weekend that will once again turn Fuengirola into a great celebration of basketball, inclusion and coexistence.
