7/7/2026 – Fuengirola certifies the excellence of its beaches with the renewal of all existing recognitions on 100% of its coastline. The Blue Flags, Q for Quality, S for Sustainability, Accessibility and ISO 14,001 already fly in the four zones into which the Fuengirola coast is divided. It was in an event to raise these flags, chaired today by Mayor Ana Mula, together with representatives of the public and private services that have made it possible for the city to once again receive this prestigious recognition.

The event was held at the Carvajal beach breakwater, where a drone from the Aerosurveillance Service brought one of the banners flying over the city sky. Once collected by the highest municipal authority and the Beach Councilor, it has been hoisted along with the rest, so that they are now flying along the entire Fuengirola coast.
“Fuengirola is a first-class tourist destination, recognized, fundamentally, for the quality of its beaches. 100% of our beaches are awarded with all possible recognitions, and in the case of the Blue Flags, for the seventh consecutive year and eleventh time in history that the entire coastline of our town obtains this international distinction. We have the best beaches in Spain. This is possible thanks to the effort and work of all sectors of the city involved in our coastline: Beach entrepreneurs: beach bars, hammocks, concessionaires of other services, as well as the great municipal team that is responsible for maintaining them daily and ensuring that they are safe spaces,” said the councilor.
In this sense, the human group that works daily in the Fuengirola sandy areas is made up of more than a hundred people in the high season so that they are in perfect condition. The device is made up of the Rescue and Lifesaving Service, the Maintenance and Cleaning operators, the Beach Guards, as well as the Drone Aerosurveillance Service. To these we must add the agents of the Fuengirola Local Police who make up the special summer device.

The Fuengirola coastline extends seven kilometers of completely urban and accessible beaches, divided into four zones. A total of 69 hammock plots are distributed in them; 29 beach bars; 64 pedestrian accesses to the beach, which have showers, footbaths and rest seats; fifteen toilets.
In terms of accessibility, Fuengirola has four hammock plots adapted to people with reduced mobility and special needs. Each of them has shaded areas and personalized attention from the rescue and lifeguard team. Likewise, the beaches of Las Gaviotas and El Castillo have a toilet for people with ostomies.
In this regard, the organization that audits and awards the Blue Flags, the Environmental and Consumer Education Association (ADEAC), has awarded this year, precisely, a special mention for this aspect, as well as for the adaptation to ‘solvable’ sun protection measures.
The security and rescue operation is organized into five modules. One of them coordinates all the services that make up the human team dedicated to safeguarding the safety of bathers and users of the city’s sandy areas. In each of them there are ‘solmaphores’ installed, which report the level of solar radiation existing at each moment of the day as well as the protection they must use. The beaches also have a public address system to notify beach users.
Coastal cleaning is daily throughout the year. To do this, the City Council has two screening machines, a tractor, seven buggies, and a porter, as well as litter bins and ecological islands on the surface for the selective collection of waste on all beaches.
Likewise, as far as recreational use is concerned, the Fuengirola coastline has areas for pleasure boats and water sports. There are also five pedal boat areas and two paddle surf areas.
