The Fuengirola City Council promotes the ‘LGTBIphobia Free Trade’ campaign to promote safe and inclusive spaces
The initiative, developed together with the Andalusian LGBT Diversity Federation, will encourage the voluntary adhesion of commercial and hospitality establishments committed to equality, respect and diversity
6/23/2026 – Fuengirola City Council, in collaboration with the Andalusian Federation of LGBT Diversity, will launch the ‘LGTBIphobia Free Trade’ campaign, an awareness initiative aimed at the city’s commercial and hospitality sector on the occasion of the commemoration of International LGTBIQ+ Pride Day. The Councilor for Families, Equality and Social Welfare, Cristina Bornao, presented this action today together with the entity’s representative, Antonio Ferre.

“On the occasion of International LGTBIQ+ Pride Day we are developing different awareness-raising and visibility initiatives. Yesterday we presented the institutional event that we will celebrate on June 25 and today we announce this campaign, which we develop jointly from the areas of Equality and Commerce together with the Andalusian Diversity Federation,” explained Bornao.
The councilor has indicated that this action aims to “promote safe, inclusive spaces committed to diversity, reinforcing the important role that businesses and hospitality establishments play in building a more egalitarian, respectful society free of any form of discrimination.”
The campaign is part of the community awareness actions that the Andalusian LGBT Diversity Federation develops continuously in Fuengirola throughout the year in collaboration with the City Council.
In this sense, Antonio Ferre recalled some of the initiatives promoted jointly, such as holding talks in educational centers to encourage respect for diversity among young people and adolescents, the development of a guide for the prevention of harassment due to LGTBIphobia, the creation of a resource guide for the group and the launch of a visible point of care, information and advice for LGTBIQ+ people.
The initiative includes the development and dissemination of different information and awareness materials aimed at commercial and hospitality establishments, in order to encourage their symbolic adherence to the values of equality, respect and diversity.
To this end, between 100 and 200 adhesive badges in vinyl format will initially be distributed that can be placed on shop windows, access doors or other visible places in the participating establishments, identifying them as spaces committed to coexistence, inclusion and respect for diversity.
Likewise, the participating businesses will become part of a municipal list of establishments committed to diversity, which will serve as a reference for both neighbors and visitors and LGTBIQ+ people who wish to identify safe and inclusive spaces within the municipality.
Adherence to the campaign will be completely voluntary and will involve the public manifestation of a commitment to the principles of equal treatment, respect for human rights and rejection of any form of discrimination. The distribution of the badges will begin in the coming weeks among those businesses interested in joining this network of establishments committed to diversity.
The councilor highlighted that the celebration of International LGTBIQ+ Pride Day constitutes an opportunity to make emotional-sexual and gender diversity visible, as well as to reaffirm the municipal commitment to the defense of rights, equal opportunities and coexistence in freedom.
