Fuengirola obtains the Q Flag for Quality and S Flag for Sustainability on 100% of its beaches

The entire coastline of the city has been awarded these distinctions, as well as the city’s port, which has obtained the Q for Quality. These flags are added to the Blue Flags also achieved on all the town’s beaches.

6/15/2026 – Fuengirola has once again obtained the Q Flag for Quality and S for Sustainability on 100% of its beaches. The Institute of Tourism Quality of Spain (ICTE) has awarded all the Fuengirola beaches the aforementioned tourist quality badges, as well as the Q for Quality for the city’s port. These recognitions are added to the four Blue Flags of its sandy beaches, consolidating the excellence of the city’s coastal services offer.

“The beaches of Fuengirola are, without a doubt, the best in our area. If a few days ago we knew that 100% of our coastline was renewing its Blue Flags, now we once again receive magnificent news: all our beaches will also continue to display the Q Flags for Quality and S Flags for Tourism Sustainability,” highlighted Mayor Ana Mula.

The councilor pointed out that these new recognitions “represent important support for the image of excellence of our destination and are the result of the joint effort of many people.” In this sense, he thanked the involvement of businessmen and beach workers, municipal employees in charge of cleaning and maintaining the coast, as well as neighbors and visitors, “who contribute every day to conserve and value one of the main attractions of our city.”

The Q Flag for Tourist Quality distinguishes those spaces that meet rigorous criteria related to the provision of services, security, accessibility, cleanliness, management and user service. For its granting, the auditing body carries out exhaustive inspections and evaluations of all the required parameters. Fuengirola has achieved this recognition eleven times.

For its part, the S badge for Sustainability values the different aspects related to compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed by the United Nations (UN). Specifically, values 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, Objective 12: Responsible Production and Consumption and Objective 14: Underwater Life. In this way, it takes into account parameters such as the correct maintenance and cleaning of the sandbanks, the quality of the bathing water in the different analyzes carried out throughout the year, waste management and its proper separation, or accessibility, among other issues.

In the case of Fuengirola, the beaches of Los Boliches-Las Gaviotas, Castillo, Fuengirola and Carvajal have once again successfully passed this demanding process, revalidating seals that have become a constant in the municipal management of the coast.

“That our entire coastline is once again recognized with these distinctions demonstrates the quality of our tourism offer and the permanent commitment to improving our services. All of this guarantees that we continue working from environmental responsibility and sustainability,” explained Ana Mula.

The mayor concluded by underlining that “it is especially relevant that independent organizations specialized in beach evaluation recognize the daily work that so many people do so that Fuengirola always offers optimal conditions and first-class services for residents and visitors.”
