The Fuengirola Municipal Employment Exchange increases hiring by 35% compared to last year

So far this year, 185 offers have been processed, which is 23% more than last year, and 33 new companies have been attracted. Unemployment data in the town is dropping to levels not seen in the last eighteen years, with significant reductions month after month

5/26/2026 – The Fuengirola Municipal Employment Exchange has increased hiring by 35% compared to last year so far in 2026, as indicated by the mayor of Fuengirola, Ana Mula, in the company of the councilor for the sector, Isaac Vargas. Figures that, in his opinion, demonstrate the good economic moment that the town is experiencing, as well as the usefulness of this public placement body, which in the first five months of the year has processed 185 offers – 23% more than in the same section of 2025 – and has served to facilitate the incorporation of 170 Fuengirola residents into the labor market.

“I have always said that, although it is not a responsibility of the city councils, offering employment opportunities for Fuengirola residents is one of my main objectives as mayor. The City Council has, for years, had the Municipal Exchange, which is in permanent contact with the business community to publish its offers. And at the same time, it is the lighthouse to which the unemployed residents of Fuengirola know that they can go to find a job. In this way, we contribute to the good economic moment that we are experiencing through this organism,” the councilor highlighted.

Thus, so far in 2026, this municipal department has processed 185 job proposals from different local and area companies – 23% more compared to the same period in 2025 -, placing 170 Fuengirola residents unemployed – 35% more than last year.

In this sense, as Mula has outlined, the main positions in demand were jobs related to the service sector and tourism: kitchen assistant and food handler, waiter’s assistant, basic cleaning operations in flats and accommodations, gardening assistant and sales staff in commerce with skills in English.

These data affect, in the opinion of the municipal president, the “great moment” that the Fuengirola economy is experiencing. Not in vain, according to state values, the municipality has recorded the best employment figures in the month of April in the last eighteen years, very close to lowering the barrier of 4,000 unemployed.

Currently, there are 4,188 Fuengiroleans unemployed, which is 10.48% less than a year ago and a 5.15% difference compared to last March.

“Therefore, we are satisfied, but we are not satisfied. Any effort aimed at facilitating job opportunities for our neighbors will be scarce. We will continue working to promote economic dynamism and employment in Fuengirola,” said Ana Mula, who recalled that Fuengirola residents can access the services of the Employment Exchange in person, at the offices of the Mayor’s Office of Los Boliches, on the website. fuengirola.portalem.com and in the ‘Fuengirola + Employment’ app.
