Institutional declaration of congratulations from the Corporate Plenary to clubs and athletes from Fuengirola
4/29/2026 – The Plenary Session of the Fuengirola City Council has approved in its ordinary session for the month of April, held today, an institutional motion to publicly congratulate several athletes from the city for the merits achieved in different sports competitions held recently.
Athletics
On behalf of the Municipal Corporation, the mayor, Ana Mula, has conveyed her congratulations to the local athlete Avril Macel Flórez for the excellent result obtained in the Andalusian Under-20 Short Track Championship, held in Antequera (Málaga) on February 28.
The young athlete from Fuengirola, at only 16 years old, managed to become runner-up in Andalusia in the 60-meter event, also setting her best mark of the season with an excellent time of 7.68 seconds. This achievement reflects their talent, effort and dedication, and is a source of pride for the entire Fuengirola sports community.
Likewise, the mayor congratulated the CD Todos a Correr athlete, Víctor Joaquín Burrueco Pizarro, for his brilliant participation in the Spanish Short Track Master Championship, held in Antequera (Málaga) between March 6 and 8.
The local athlete managed to win the bronze medal in the 3,000 meter walk test of the M45 category, a result that shows his effort, perseverance and excellent competitive level.
Local ultrarunner Cristian Viruel Martín was congratulated for his extraordinary participation in the 40th edition of the legendary Sands Marathon, held in the Sahara Desert (Morocco) from April 3 to 13.
Cristian has faced one of the toughest competitions in the world’s ultra-distance with determination, completing a route of approximately 250 kilometers in extreme conditions of heat, sand, self-sufficiency and isolation. His effort and ability to improve represent an inspiring example for the entire sports community.
Surfing
The surfers from the Dreisog Surf Club have also been congratulated for their magnificent performance in the 5th edition of the Mediterranean Surf Cup, held in Mazarrón (Murcia) on March 21 and 22. The club’s athletes once again demonstrated their talent, effort and commitment, achieving an outstanding presence on the podiums of the different categories and consolidating the high level of Fuengirola surfing.
The most notable results were, in the Men’s Under-10 category: Pedro Martín Dávila, runner-up; in the Female Under-12 category: Carmen Martínez Terrón, champion; in the U-14 Male category: Aarón Sánchez Pastor, champion; Carlos Arias Fernández, runner-up; and Carlos Sánchez Ramos, third place; in the Women’s Under-16 category: Carla González Atienza, third place; in the U-16 Male category: Jorge Peña Fernández, third place; and in the Absolute Male category: Javier Donoso Bueno, runner-up.
Swimming
Likewise, the mayor has congratulated the swimmers of the Fuengirola Swimming Club for the brilliant results obtained in their two recent participations in official Andalusian competitions: the V Andalusian Open Master Long Distance Championship, held in San Fernando (Cádiz) on March 21 and 22, and the XL Andalusian Absolute Winter Championship, held in Malaga from March 27 to 29. March.
The club’s athletes have demonstrated an extraordinary competitive level, once again placing Fuengirola in a prominent place within Andalusian swimming.
The most outstanding results in the V Andalusian Open Master Long Distance Championship were achieved by Alejandro Castaño Chacón, Gold Medal in the men’s 3,000 m freestyle +60; and in the XL Andalusian Absolute Winter Championship, Julia Medina Martín, Gold in the 4×200 m freestyle relay; Silver in 200 m freestyle and 4×100 m freestyle relay; Diana María Valean Sasa, Gold in 4×200 m freestyle relay; Silver in the 4×100 m freestyle relay and Bronze in the 100 m and 200 m butterfly. Aileen Abigail Colomer Gómez, Gold in 4×200 m freestyle relay; and Silver in 4×100 m freestyle relay. María Veterkov Biolokon, Silver in the 4×100 m freestyle relay and Bronze in the 100 m backstroke; while Malak Dias Rharrouch achieved Gold in the 4×200 m freestyle relay.
The Fuengirola swimmer María de Valdés Álvarez was also the subject of plenary congratulations for the excellent result obtained as a member of the Spanish Swimming Team in the Open Water Swimming World Cup, held in Soma Bay (Egypt) on March 27 and 28.
María de Valdés has once again demonstrated her enormous talent and sporting commitment by winning the bronze medal in the 4×1,500 meter mixed relay event, contributing decisively to the success of the national team in a top-level international competition. This achievement reinforces, once again, the track record of excellence of our athlete and constitutes a source of pride for the entire city of Fuengirola.
Skating
The skaters from the El Tejar Skating Club in Fuengirola were also congratulated for their magnificent performance at the XXIV Spanish Championship of Show Groups and Senior Quartets, held in Guadalajara from March 27 to 29.
The Cygnara quartet, made up of Susana Martínez Cons, Sofía Suárez Pérez, Natalia Baldizzone Morales and Julia Rodríguez Rodríguez, with Alejandro Ríos Gómez as reserve, has achieved an extraordinary result by proclaiming itself runner-up in Spain in the senior quartet category, demonstrating a very high technical, artistic and competitive level.
This brilliant performance has also earned them qualification for the World Championship, which will take place in Paraguay next October.
Likewise, the mayor congratulated the Fuengirola skater Natalia Baldizzone Morales, from the El Tejar Skating Club, for her magnificent performance at the Figure Skating World Cup, held in Buenos Aires (Argentina) from April 11 to 19.
Natalia Baldizzone has once again demonstrated her exceptional talent by becoming world runner-up in the senior ladies only dance category. This result, of enormous international prestige, consolidates her among the best skaters on the world scene and constitutes a source of pride for Fuengirola, for her club and for the entire local sports community.
Beach Tennis
The councilor also congratulated the local athletes José Alfonso Jiménez Barquero and José Luis Rosas Marques for the outstanding results obtained in the Andalusian Beach Tennis Championship, held in Marbella (Málaga) between April 10 and 12.
Both athletes have demonstrated a high level of commitment and sporting excellence, winning the title of champions of Andalusia in their respective categories: José Alfonso Jiménez Barquero, champion in the veterans +40 couples category; and José Luis Rosas Marques, champion in the veterans +50 couples category. Thanks to these merits, both have obtained their qualification for the Spanish Championship, which will take place in Castellón from April 24 to 26.
taekwondo
The mayor also congratulated the young taekwondo players of CD Taeguk for their brilliant participation in the Andalusian Precadete Taekwondo Championship, held in Écija (Seville) on April 12.
Their effort, discipline and commitment were reflected in the excellent results obtained. The medalists were Lamis El Bertouli Techtach, bronze in the women’s -30 kg category; and Enzo Menéndez Curto, bronze in the men’s -32 kg category.
