The III International Open Cities Forum has consolidated Fuengirola as the epicenter of debate on tourism management. This afternoon concluded this meeting in which senior representatives from four continents debated, in the town’s Peace Palace, the present and future of tourism worldwide and presented their success stories.

The event started this morning with the interventions of the mayor Ana Mula, and the general director of Promotion and Promotion of Tourism and Hospitality of the Government of Andalusia, Gemma del Corral.

During the afternoon session, it was the turn of the delegate of the Ministry of Tourism in Tetouan (Morocco), Omar Zekari, the minister of the Japanese Embassy in Spain, Shinichi Sato; and the mayor of Maccagno con Pino e Veddasca Lago Maggiore (Italy), Ivan Vargiu.

The African representative has valued the Tetouan proposal as an example of tourism management in his country. The Japanese diplomat has explained the measures that this ancient empire has put into practice since it was an emerging destination until today in terms of sustainability. While the Italian councilor has highlighted the benefits and virtues of the city he represents.

Finally, the Councilor for Tourism of Fuengirola, José Luis Ponce, took the floor to thank all the participants in this first edition for their participation in the Forum, which he assured that “it has come to last over time” to continue declaring the international vocation of the city and the people of Fuengirola.

The objective of this meeting has been to present, in a simple and brief way, initiatives that have been successful by balancing, from the Administration, the activity of the tourism sector with the necessary sustainability and comfort of resident citizens. Under the title, ‘Tourism and success management’, each speaker has shared the experiences that they have put into practice in their places of origin.
