Fuengirola strengthens its international projection with the celebration this Monday of the III International Forum of Open Cities


The meeting will be held at the Peace Palace starting at 10:30 a.m., with free access until capacity is reached, and will bring together institutional, diplomatic and business representatives from different countries.

4/24/2026 – Fuengirola City Council will celebrate this coming Monday, April 27, the third edition of the International Open Cities Forum, an initiative that strengthens the international projection of the municipality and its firm commitment to an open, dynamic and sustainable city model. The event will take place at the Peace Palace and will bring together prominent institutional, diplomatic, business and tourism representatives from different countries.

This event, which is consolidated as a reference space for the exchange of experiences and good practices, will address in this edition the main challenges and opportunities in terms of tourism sustainability, innovation and cooperation between international destinations.

The III International Forum of Open Cities will be held as a prelude to the International Country Fair (FIP), one of the most emblematic events on the Fuengirola calendar, thus reinforcing the cosmopolitan, integrative and multicultural character of the city.

The day will be structured in two sessions. The first will take place in the morning, starting at 10:30 with the opening ceremony. The first round table will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Subsequently, the program will resume in the afternoon, between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., with new interventions and discussion tables. Admission will be free until the auditorium capacity is reached.

The opening ceremony will feature the participation of the mayor of Fuengirola, Ana Mula; the delegate of the Government of the Junta de Andalucía in Malaga, Patricia Navarro; and the general director of Promotion and Promotion of Tourism and Hospitality of the Junta de Andalucía, Gemma del Corral.

Next, starting at 11:00 a.m., the first round table will be held, focused on the analysis of strategies and public policies aimed at sustainable tourism development. The Andean parliamentarian and president of the Foreign Policy Commission, Gustavo Pacheco Villar, will participate in it; the head of the Market and Attractiveness Unit of the Department of Environment and Business Life of Malmö (Sweden), Anna Writtgen; and the Councilor for Tourism, Hospitality and Congress of the Oviedo City Council, Alfredo García Quintana.

The second round table will take place in the afternoon session, starting at 4:30 p.m., and will offer a global perspective on institutional cooperation and the promotion of international tourist destinations. The minister of the Japanese Embassy in Spain, Shinichi Sato, will participate; the mayor of Maccagno con Pino e Veddasca (Italy), Ivan Vargiu; and the Tourism delegate of the Ministry of Tourism and Crafts of Tetouan (Morocco), Omar Sekari Amrani.

With the celebration of this forum, Fuengirola continues to strengthen its position as a tourist destination of excellence and as a meeting point for international dialogue, institutional cooperation and the promotion of initiatives that contribute to the sustainable development of cities. An event that once again highlights the universal vocation of Fuengirola and its ability to build bridges between cultures, territories and institutions.
