The Fuengirola City Council and the Junta de Andalucía join forces to improve the well-being of the elderly in the new Suel Day Center

The mayor and the Minister of Social Inclusion have visited the new facilities, which will be managed by the local entity AFA Fuengirola-Mijas. This is an electoral commitment of the current Government team that will enter service soon to serve 40 dependent users and offer a respite to their families.

3/13/2026 – The Fuengirola City Council and the Junta de Andalucía have joined forces to improve the well-being of the elderly in the new Suel Day Center, in El Boquetillo. The mayor Ana Mula and the Minister of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality, Loles López, have visited the new facilities, which will provide care to 40 elderly dependents of the city.

“Attention to our elderly is essential. We are an Andalusian city with a higher life expectancy, according to the National Institute of Statistics, and that is because we offer excellent services and a great quality of life is felt here. Therefore, one of my commitments was to continue providing equipment to our elderly. We have complied and it is now a reality,” stated the councilor.

The works on this equipment were completed at the beginning of this year, and at the Municipal Plenary Session corresponding to the month of January, the City Council unanimously approved the temporary and free transfer to the Association of Relatives of Alzheimer’s Patients Fuengirola-Mijas.

The surface of the premises is 626.55 square meters and it occupies part of Miguel Bueno and Menorca streets – on the ground floor of the Elola Complex, next to the El Boquetillo Mayor’s Office. This space has recently been adapted by the City Council for use as a day center, with the capacity to serve a total of 40 users.

The facilities have several living rooms, an occupational therapy classroom, dining room, rehabilitation area, kitchen, as well as toilets, changing rooms, storage spaces and units necessary for the correct operation and maintenance of this type of care centers.

This project, which responds to a commitment from the Government team, has been financed thanks to a subsidy granted by the Junta de Andalucía, with funds from the European Union through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan – NextGeneration EU. The investment has amounted to 1,025,255.73 euros.

For her part, the regional leader stressed that “it is a very beautiful project because it shows what can be achieved when administrations and society work with the same objective. I know how hard the association has fought to have this center, which was also very necessary, and also the effort of the mayor to make it a reality. Without that commitment it would have been impossible. In the end, the most important thing will be when this building is filled with life with the people who are going to use it, because they are the ones who will give true meaning to all this work.”
